Putting aside various subjective criteria, "Middle East" and "North(ern) Africa" are two different kinds of things. The second one is entirely geographical and continental, whereas Middle East is in between the near and far East, and East cannot be a purely geographical reference, but has its context in an Anglo-Saxon milieu.

East = milieu-dependent, like Anno Domini, Africa is the instinctive notion of a continent.

It is thus inelegant if not incoherent, especially the abbreviation MENA, the word MENA is the ultimate irony here and I can't believe I'm the only one who noticed it is highly reminiscent of the Semitic words for 'right side' (as in the name Benjamin), as if some Western European was looking at a map and saying "MENA's on our right side."

If I'm not mistaken, MENA was thought of to define a race. Looking at it anthropologically, that is what the supposed 'region' has in common, but nothing else, not politics anymore, and never language. People saying MENA are referring to a racial zone, not a cultural one, so it should not be used as a name for one of the great climes of the planet. It is like "black Africa".

Mena is simply a term for all the countries that define themselves as arab, regardless of the veracity of the claim. It just happens that most of these countries are located in the traditionally called regions of northern africa and the middle east, again, regardless of how geographically erroneous the nomenclatures are.

I know. Years ago I was reading the works of a linguist that was explaining Arabic. And it seems like Arabic originates from north Arabia/South Levant area. And that it spread to more regions from the 1st to 3rd centuries AD. And then spread to even more areas during the islamic era. Also the first mention of Arabs was from Assyrians that claimed to have fought them, in the north. That is not to mention that Yemen had it is own south Arabian languages that aren't even from the same Semitic branch as Arabic. So I don't think Arabs are from Yemen. I think Arabs originate from Northern Hejaz/Southern Levant, you know? The area where Petra and Tabuk are. Probably.

Assyrian script usually refers to a form of the proto-Aramaic (i.e. Hebrew) script. Assyrian Christians use either the East Syriac or 'Nestorian' script, an Arabic script or, recently, a certain Cyrillic one.
