The reason its popular is because those kids couldnt afford 30 dollar pubg, so when a f2p clone came out, they flocked to it. Those same kids are the main ad revenue of twitch streamers and youtubers. When the youtubers flocked to fortnite for the ad rev, so did everyone else.
