There's also a nonzero chance that the other user is a literal retard. I don't hold any Monero since I see it more as a useful coin to conduct transactions than anything that has "mooning potential", but it's a good coin.

It's still cool, it's an anonymous worldwide currency. It's been functional up to now, it's more private than cash, and it really belongs to "the people" (well and the minergate team who might have cornered a good part of the market, as well as bitmain for the duration of time they mined it, I haven't followed that too closely).
In a market mostly filled by non-functional memes, it really shows well the currency part of the potential of crypto.
