Why aren't Americans jealous of China's 27 000 km of high speed rail which reaches speeds of up to 350 km/h (217 mph)?

Same reason why they aren’t jealous of Japan’s Shinkansen
America just doesn't respect rail transport nearly enough in general imo.
Americans can afford to buy cars and not have to share transportation with strangers
Because the point of the high speed rails in China is to connect the poorer western parts of the country, to the wealthy eastern coast in an attempt to better balance out the huge wealth inequality.
I think Americans just don’t need it. People there would rather buy cars, the whole place is not as dense as China’s or Japan’s, and riding an airplane is probably cheaper than riding a highspeed train from east coast to west coast
Because they believe the US is #1. And they are right.
But cars are so slow in comparison. Maybe it's because America is so lacking in culture and just copy pastes everything that there's no point going to neighbouring cities, unlike China
trains are a dead meme in north america, overpriced, no one uses it, always late, outdated tech. people just fly or drive a car bc the train is shit
t. someone who legitimately loves traveling by train
They are jealous.
The copypasta shit is mostly just a suburban thing. Our cities are unique.
I am, we don't have trains here it would be fun to have them and they would be cheaper than buses.
I wish Japan felt sorry for us and decided to build some rails and give us some trains, hell i'm not even talking about current tech 80s stuff would be more than enough.
I am.
But most Americans have never seen a high-speed rail so they don't realize how useful it is.
There are tons of Americans on Jow Forums who literally think cars are an adequate replacement for mass transit. It's stupid.
The surface area of most American downtowns is over 50% asphalt.
Yeah we have some cool cities but until we correct sprawl and car-dependency we'll never have nice cities. Damn shame.
That and all of their tracks are owned by private companies, and even if they let passenger trains use them they prioritize freight every time and lead to massive delays.
>have 16 lane highways
>always 4 hour traffic
>half of the day stuck commuting
American engineering
Railways in America are used for transporting goods as far as I know
One of the private freight companies in Florida is actually building high-speed rail around the state right now.
In Texas, Republicans STRONGLY opposed private high-speed rail (hypocrites lol). But in Florida, Governor Rick Scott is personally invested in the rail company so he's fine with it.
Rick Scott is a fucking scumbag.
Didn't even know it even existed because I'm too busy working, studying, and making a family.
>But cars are so slow in comparison
But having rail isnt all about speed, more often than not, rail is used for long distance goods transportation on account of how much it costs to move bulk, not speed. The US rely's very little on rail because
1) It doesnt have limited land
2) It doesnt need to connect its regions economically or politically
3) Even cheaper sea based transport is readily available for anywhere on the coasts and up the Mississippi
>After widening was completed in 2008, a portion of the highway west of Houston is now also believed to be the widest in the world, at 26 lanes
WHAT THE FUCK
What is WRONG with these people
I looked it up on google streetview and everyone on one side was still stuck in traffic
Because nothing ever works in China. Their #1 priority is coming up with big figures to impress foreigners.
The widest highway is 12 lanes and it's in LA i don't know what you guys are talking about. Also 99.9% of US highways are two lane
Why won’t they just add more roads instead of increasing road lanes? I really doubt that solved the traffic.
What like put another highway next to the existing one? Why do that when you can just expand the one that's there already?
