You will not use everything you learn in your life. This is not the goal of education nor the reason why we learn. Unless you go to trade school, the same applies to university - the vast majority of classes, even within your degree path, will teach you skills which will NOT be applicable in your life.
This is by design. We are not cogs in a wheel, we are individuals who need to be able to stand alone. And a good start to being informed about world events is at the very least a basic understanding of the relative location of countries. Nobody is asking you specifically where the GPS coordinates of Astana are on a map, but knowing where South Korea is in relation to Japan is important to start understanding their relationship, you know?
