Nein, I’d literally rather learn Hebrew.
No, I didn't
I wanted to learn German after I went to switzerland, but it's impossible to learn anything after you're like past 13
I wanted to learn German before Inglorious Basterds was released, never did though.
>it's impossible to learn anything after you're like past 13
Bullshit. It's just a bit harder
I learned to play the drums when I was 22.
no, wanted to learn since I heard bits of Hitler's speeches in documentaries
seemed like a great language to be angry in
Good job, user.
I took German in high school but my teacher was from East Germany and she taught us Low German, so I can't understand anything that modern Germans say.
that so monkey brain?
"low german"
you have no idea what you're talking about, she probably just had an accent
"low german"
you have no idea what you're talking about, she probably just had russian dick in her mouth
Have you ever talked to a 60 yr old from Vorpommern? That's what she sounds like. It sounds completely different from what modern germans sound like
Thanks, for some reason I found your post funny
I’m not he, but isn’t low German the German spoken in northern Germany because its altitude is lower? And then high German is in the south and is more closely related to modern standard German?
I could be wrong though, this is all regurgitated info from some German user on here.
the fuck? that's actually rare for low german to be spoken in east germany. But I suppose there was that weird migration of low germans to eastern europe.
wow what a shitty mentality, learning it as a child is actually pretty over rated and repetitive as fuck. think about it you need to be fully immersed and have an adult correcting how you talk every second.
in 3 years a child will still sound like a child when speaking, in 3 years an adult learnign might still have an accent but will have a larger vocab than a kid
Didn't see it
actual low german has like 250,000 L1 speakers, so it's rather unbelievable
could be true, modern standard german is called high german, low german (or nedersassisk or plattdüütsch) is entirely different and still an existing language spoken by very few throughout the entirety of northern germany and some parts of the netherlands
based, me neither
Isn't low german north German? Anyways, she spoke the harshest, most grating german i've ever heard, it doesn't sound anything like standard German. She also came from a little village in Mecklenberg-Vorpommern.
if by north german you mean "spoken by some people in the north" then yes, if you mean "the language of the north of germany" then absolutely not, under no circumstances

Only Celtic languages for me
Did she actually teach you low german or did she teach you high german with a low german accent?
And to be honest only learning high german is only useful central and north germany. south and east germany have dialects that are really fucking hard to understand, you should have just kept learning lad
why are you so obsessed with this shit? youre worse than americans and their "muh heritage"
There's literally nothing to be proud about being celtic, through out history they been cucked by any other european with power.
I've never even heard of low German.
Interesting, it must've been standard german because I can still read German fairly well. She just had a strong regional dialect that doesn't sound like standard german.
depends actually, the east isn't hard to understand most of the time, maybe that's just a mistake people make with learning. most people learn by textbooks and whatever their teacher presents them but that's not going to get you anywhere. textbook conversations are so stale and fake that you'll barely be able to use the knowledge you gather from them. i'd recommend you to just listen to some dialects more often and you'll get the hang of it, when push comes to shove you can just ask whoever you're talking to to just slow down a bit.
it'd be nice if you had some notes you took or whatever as reference because actual low german speakers are really rare
yea if her native language really is low german then she'll have some problems with pronunciation since low german hasn't undergone the same vowel shifts as high german and some of the pronunciations are harsher to my knowledge.
>Ostschlampe
my sides
I've never seen it. I learned German because I like the way it sounds and how it looks written.
True, I mean I already do that, since I have friends from Sachsen, I am learning their accent/dialekt more and more, but in the beginning I could only understand people from hannover kek
yeah i dont know why so many west germans are so hostile to east germans on 4 chan, I been to east germany it's a really nice place with very few "ghetto" parts. even their "ghettos" are a million times better than american ghettos
watch it mane, but just warning you now you have to be pretty damn fluent in German to understand the bar scene from my pic, they use very high vocabulary
just be yourself and learn this user
Plz delet
German is ze language of love.
