I don't feel in constant danger. But the simple fact is that no matter what your laws are and what is or isn't available, some people are just dumb, unpredictable, and violent. Disarming everyone doesn't change that. You're better off leaving people able to defend themselves instead of having them be dependent on the government, police, whatever. Nobody can defend you except for yourself.

Yeah it does. If someone tries to start shit with you you do everything you can to deescalate. If that doesn't work, draw. If that still doesn't work, shoot. The CDC estimated that there's a half million defensive uses of handguns in this country each year- that includes the simple act of showing your potential assailant that you're armed and they should go pick on someone who isn't. For that matter, self defense situations where the defender used a handgun have the lowest rate of injury (for the defender) when compared to other methods like tasers, mace, etc. Carrying a gun might not guarantee your safety but I'd say it does a better job than any kind of law you can put down.

Our rate of violence is so high because we have an opioid crisis and shithole inner city communities full of poverty, drugs, and gangs. Tightening gun laws isn't going to reduce homicide because one, those gun laws are going to affect law abiding citizens and not criminals, and two, that isn't going to address the issues that are the root cause of 90% of violence in this country.

You need to look at what motivates people to commit violence and deal with that issue, because for all the guns in America the overwhelming majority of them are not used for crime or mass shootings, they're used for hunting, self defense, recreation, etc.

I think our current laws with regards to needing a gun license is decent, and prevents dumbasses I wouldn't trust with a gun, from getting one. I do wish the laws regarding what types of guns we could own, and where we could shoot them, would be relaxed.
