That's how Romania was founded. Several Vlach and Moldovan guys had a meeting and decided to create a state named "Romania" and the people named "Romanians". But first they had to replace like 70% of the words in their "Romanian" language with French loanwords, because the former ones sounded too Slavic.

Bessarabians didn't take part in this meeting so why would they now claim that they're Romanians?
