Chainlink is a digital commodity not a currency. The price of link will be partially driven by supply and demand but the collateral aspect is what gives it astronomical value. The purpose of the token was to be expensive to disincentivize node operators from returning bad data. Node operators need link to be expensive so they don’t necessarily need to unnecessarily stake a large majority for 1 smart contract but rather be able to spread them. LINK being under $1000 defeats the purpose of the token. Node operators will effectively be paid in usd but through the LINK token which must be used as collateral.
