Any time your boss tries to add responsibilities you say you'd love to do it but first you'd like to talk about a raise. They will just ask someone else.

OK, OP here's what you do:
1) Go to Glassdoor
2) Find out what your current job title pays
3) Find out what your actual work responsibilities pay (your job title + "Senior" or "Manager" or "II" or whatever the fuck you're currently doing, it's called something)
4) Compare salary difference
5) Print out some job listings for the higher paying job
6) Apply to and hopefully get higher paying job(s)
7) Point out to boss the current record low unemployment rate, the going market rate for your skills (highball this if it's a range), and how fucked he'd be if you left and he had to slog through 100 resumes and a dozen interviews to find some crackhead to take your place.
8) Get raise
9) Leverage raise into higher starting salary at new job
