If you're in a city, look for meetups where people attending are also active in respectable, low level programming languages. If you're as bright as you think you are, other bright people will key into it and maybe invite you along to an online thing. The people at the meetup could also end up being clueless enthusiasts, so I recommend taking a few minutes to do some legwork on the other attendees.
