I'm planning on going by myself in early December and I'll have around 6K spending money. What's there to do? Would it be easy to make friends on the go or are travel hostels a better option?
I don't know mandarin but I know English and Arabic fluently, will that help?
immediately knew this thread was made by either a leaf or an aussie

Where the fuck is that?
Robert Bell
they will only act awkwardly if you are chink diaspora.
Lucas Turner
6 grand doesn't sound like very much to travel around China. How long are you planning to stay and how much of the country do you plan to see?
Jack Robinson
take a look at the red dot near Vietnam
Easton Reyes
>know English and Arabic fluently >Chinese diaspora Dumb English teacher.
Zachary James
Go to Beijing and take lots of pictures of government buildings
Gabriel Watson
2-3-further generation chink diaspora can not know the chink language at times.
Brayden Clark
Don't break out the mental gymnastics to defend stupid foreigners in Japan.
Henry Sullivan
How was it? >How long are you planning to stay and how much of the country do you plan to see? Not for long. Maybe a couple of weeks to a month at most. I'm planning on going to the Great Wall but I just want to live and travel around just chilling and enjoying the different atmosphere. Maybe rent a motorcycle too and just drive around.
Cooper Davis
wasn't the intention
Chase Fisher
If only there was a travel board.
Dylan Rivera
Lijiang is beautiful but touristic like hell go to Tibet
Cooper White
Make sure to take photos of military or security facilities, that's always good for a lark. Also make sure to openly and loudly discuss Falun Gong and Taiwanese independence in public.
Ethan Peterson
China is fairly shit for a variety of reasons, your much better off going to somewhere in SEA
Ayden Phillips
What do you want to do here? Sightsee? Go to bars?
If you don’t speak any Chinese, stay in Beijing or Shanghai, or hope you have a good tour guide
Hudson Howard
I heard Tibet is full of hippies or similar scum? Besides I like going around urban areas the most.
>going SEA by myself as a male Yeah no, 99% of people that do that here are just going for the whores. Also I don't mind visiting Laos, Burma or Vietnam but there's just something off-putting about the rest of SEA.
>Sightsee? Go to bars? Travel around the country experiencing different cultures and meeting new people I guess. I did the same last year here but I suppose the language barrier would be a big issue. I thought most Chinese middle-class people would have a decent grasp on English desu.
Gavin Gonzalez
Even at Beida, most students have a hard time speaking English. It is taught from primary school, but only in books, rarely oral. It is rare to see anyone over 40 know basic English, even in Beijing
Caleb Rodriguez
Yes.
I traveled throughout Jiangnan, I highly recommend the area. Go to Beijing, take the HSR to Suzhou, then visit Shanghai and Hangzhou. Next you can see Nanjing before taking HSR to Guangzhou, Shenzen, and Hong Kong if you want technopunk paradise.
Make sure to see the most important sites in Beijing and Nanjing. However, I preferred the natural beauty of Hangzhou/Suzhou and the economic power of Shanghai/Shenzen.
6k is more than enough for a month of traveling in China. I spent maybe $30 a day in hostels/cheap hotels and $10 on food. In two weeks I only used up $1200 on housing/food and $500 on transportation.
Ask on /trv/ if you want more in-depth answers.

Go to SEA for whores. Go to China for history, food, and modern tech at supercheap prices.
Josiah Sanders
I have. Made money in the trip just for being myself, super weird.
Cameron Reyes
>I thought most Chinese middle-class people would have a decent grasp on English desu.
Enough people in shanghai/Beijing/hangzhou/shenzen know english. You’ll be perfectly fine there.
As for motorcycling around... would not recommend since you need an international license. China doesn’t let random foreigners drive vehicles, unlike SEA shitholes
You can take the train/plane to the major cities and then get an electric bike for rent. Maybe $5 a day for a decent electric bike and helmet (wear your helmet or you get fined).
Matthew Martin
That's a real shame desu
What'd you do for fun, was there a language issue? What did you eat? Did you kickback with other tourists or locals? >technopunk paradise Isn't Japan better in that regard?
Gavin Clark
was to china, did that soldiers made me remove the pics ("photo no, cut, cut!")
What about more remote second or third tier cities?
Lucas Hill
go outside the big cities, foreigners get treated like celebrities there
Andrew Cook
I don't want to be treated special never really got off that kind of stuff
Brody Kelly
>he doesn't want discounts, better service and cute girls taking pictures with him your loss
Ian Campbell
I recommend Qingdao and Harbin if winter. Since u are Arab I also recommend Urumqi :) Maybe go on wikitravel or just look at a detailed map and get lost looking up locations Oh yeah that big park, zhangjiajie I think, looks pretty sick
Joseph Campbell
Will do user
Evan Thompson
Once went to Bejing. Never going back 0/5 like all Ch*na
Justin Fisher
>discounts you mean they don't charge tourists extra?
Camden Morales
What went wrong
Jonathan Torres
China is unironically pretty bad for mainstream tourism because the sheer amount of locals already make every possible place crowded and disneyland-ish
Unless you're into off-the-track nature things and know where to go. The food can be interesting but I wouldn't spend more than a week there
