Not a Mainlander, but Uyghurs literally only live in the area through historical jihads against Buddhists and literally being given clay by the Qing after the Dzungars were exterminated. I'm not particularly inclined to care about their plight given that ETIP openly has declared that they want to make jihad on the rest of China even if given independence.
Note that the Hui fare much better despite also being Sunni Muslim since they don't challenge the state like retards and have the basic human decency not to bomb elderly people at markets and stab tourists in train stations.
