I'd rather travel and work wherever I can, planning to by a meme van to live in, although I'm aware the country strenghten its requirements for "home vehicles" to prevent people from literaly shitting everywhere, among other things. So I'd hook up with people leaving the country after their year and getting rid of the van. Some guys I know did that, in multiple countries

I'll also meet a friend there who'll have a couple months headstart. What kind of seasonal work is there to do in New Zealand ? I have some experience in vineyards for instance.
Otherwise I'm a cook so that's pretty much universal

Nature and out stuff is a big part of why I'll go there, and although the North does look beautiful I'm aware the best stuff is down South

But with a whole year I really expect to go North at some point

Oh yeah, those are pretty common to get around in, they do have a bad reputation because of grubby back packers making a fucking mess.
But you'll be able to get a hold of one no problem I'd say.
They're not even that expensive to hire I don't think if you can't buy one.

If you're meeting up with a mate he might be able to hook you up with a job.
Other than that in ChCh you should be able to find a basic work pretty easy, maybe some casual labour or hook up with a temp agency.
In other places vineyards and apple picking is pretty decent seasonal work if you're up for it and some out of the way hotels are usually looking for staff, although I'd imagine they'd want to keep you there for longer than you'd like.

It really depends on where you're going for what sort of job you'll have so you'll have to do your research but it shouldn't be hard at all in all honesty, like here for instance we get a lot of holiday visa workers working in the fish factory for Hoki season just past.
