Is there any other European people who can semi/mutually understand English without any teaching in it?
If you speak a Romance language then you can understand the gist of certain academic or journalist articles that is laced with Latin-based loanwords. You have to understand that English underwent several drastic changes during its history due to strong contact with other languages like Celtic ones, Norman French and Old Norse which had an almost créolizing effect on English.
This is Frisian, the closest linguistic relative to current English varieties.
Not at all, I can't even understand regular german
