It's pretty normal, i assume they tell you next to nothing of Africa and asia too. At school there isn't enough toime to do the whole world well, so they only tell you stuff which is connected to your country at least in some way and a little tiny bit abot the rest. It's hard to find legit maps of maximum Ottoman territorial extent. For example, in the 1800s the Empire was still expanding because more land was added to the Egyptian realm in the Sudan and even more south than that (idk what that region is called). But none of the Ottoman Empire territorial extent maps will include this for some odd reason. I read somewhere as well that inner-Arabian peninsula states were Ottoman vassals, but I couldn't confirm it.

Iran isn't Turkey's ally. But both countries have a lot of complicated relations due to the war in Syria and the Kurdish issue. Also after 2011 and the fall of Saleh's dictatorship in Yemen. There was a Yemeni party called Al-Islah that was gaining popularity. If that party ever got the majority of seats , you could rest assured that Yemen would have become Turkey's ally and welcomed Turkish influence in Yemen. But after the civil war, our country made sure to jail all prominent figures in the party and try to suppress the party as much as possible. So now Yemen and more importantly the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, is being competed for between our side and Iran's side. The closest Turkey has gotten to the Bab-el-Mandeb strait is Somalia and that Ottoman port in Sudan. Which are not even on the strait. So Turkey has no hopes on influencing the trade between Asia and Europe.
