Question for Mexican user's
Dylan Morris
Owen Fisher
how is Maximilian I of Mexico and the Second Mexican Empire in General viewed in your country
Kevin Reed
self-haters love him because he was european, most people dont care about him
Adam Wilson
Most people don't think much of him
I think of him as rather tragic, but he had to die, for our republic.
Jeremiah James
wasn't he quite enlightened for current-then monarchs?
Cameron Rivera
He was, he enacted many liberal reforms
Triggered the hell out of the cuck Conservadores who handed over the crown to him
Adam Sanchez
Religious freedom, rights for the poor, attempts for racial equality
Jack Barnes
yes and things have turned out so great for you for your republic
Blake Bennett
he was another revolutionist on the throne
Eli Powell
Yes, we gain the right to exist without any European power ever going with their shenanigans on our country
Also, far better than in your Islamic one
Sebastian Miller
>far better than in your Islamic one
don't be offensive, he was just talking about history without any aggressive attitude
Jeremiah Reed
Sorry, he's just retarded
Elijah Martin
Unironically I see him as one of the only good guys in charge of this country throughout history,
Many mexicans don't even know about him tho.
Liam Cox
kys
Isaiah Allen
Sorry I am just retarded
Joshua Sanders
but isn't he as famous as Idalgo, Juarez, Dias, Sapata Madero and Billa?
William Rodriguez
He should be, but he was on the antagonist side
Against Juarez
Levi Parker
By right-wing retards:
Like a hero and even like a martyr
By left wing retards:
Like a villain, and like a puppet faggot
By neutral ones:
A good man in a wrong situation, even if Maximilian was an idealistic person with a dream to build his own empire in the new world he was also a foreigner that was threatening the republican ideals of Mexico, ideals that costed bloodshed to maintain, Mexicans were also not okay with foreign powers invading its territory (just like USA did some years earlier).
If you look deeper, Max was kind of a puppet because France was expecting to increase its influence in the American continent by helping Max, this foreign intervention and brief 2nd empire was a struggle between 2 facets of Mexican society: The conservative monarchists and the liberal republicans.
In my opinion this country has been always seeking its true identity, struggle for power is the same goal for both sides, instead of true nationalistic ideas.
Mexicans might be patriotic, but there is no such thing as mexican nationalism.
Brandon Price
> but there is no such thing as mexican nationalism.
This is our problem
Kevin Carter
I think the majority of people are affected by corruption to ever think about nationalism.
Christian Ortiz
Yes
I also think ignorance, they don't understand the concept of nationalism we need
Caleb Gomez
>they don't understand the concept of nationalism we need
I think it would lead to greater corruption, except people will defend it but hey you know your country.
Adam Diaz
Forgotten or demonized by (((the mexican education)))) system
Colton Gomez
>exicans were also not okay with foreign powers invading its territory (just like USA did some years earlier).
But the US was met with virtually zero opposition from the civilian population of the North since the central governments authority there was nonexistent because of the Comanche threat. Villages would even celebrate the incoming Americans because that meant that the Indians would stop raiding and pillaging them for a short while.
Jordan Jones
History does not remember the ones who lost
Angel Jones
Illegitimate French puppet, properly executed to send a message.
Jayden Cooper
After the war we have a common enemy, you United us.
Blake Kelly
>After the war we have a common enemy, you United us.
No you didn't, you didn't stop having constant civil wars until the 20th century.
Blake Rodriguez
I think the next great civil war for this ephymeral place will happen in the next 20 years. Cause: The northern states of Mexico will seek independence.
Andrew Moore
>The northern states of Mexico will seek independence.
lmao
Brayden Cook
*ephemeral
Jackson Gonzalez
Yeah, because they where a bunch of White traitors, Just like Israel, Texas is the prime example of why you shouldnt let refugees to settle in your country
Good guy, but not the one we needed, having an european monarch opened the opportunities for them to try and take over the whole continent again, so yeah he had to die to set an example
Wyatt Ross
We can hate more than one person at the time, but yeah you can argue México lived in a state of constant civil war up until the end of the cristero war in 1929
>being this dumb
Luis Scott
Really tho, how likely is that? Northern mexicans seem to be the most patriotic ones
Ethan Harris
>Good guy, but not the one we needed, having an european monarch opened the opportunities for them to try and take over the whole continent again, so yeah he had to die to set an example
Conversely he might have brought order and a closer integration with Europe that might mean Mexico would be a modern civilized country today instead of an unstable dysfunctional shithole.
Grayson Cooper
>By right-wing retards:
>Like a hero and even like a martyr
can you explain why they think that
Jacob Price
O yeah Just like it happened with french africa right?
Hudson Rivera
Dont know Why he says it, maybe he is confussing with Porfirio Diaz, lots of harcore right wingers hate on Juárez, but that dosent mean liking maximiliano, actually the conservadores at the time turned their backs on him when it was clear he wasnt the kind of guy they wanted
Dominic Rodriguez
>O yeah Just like it happened with french africa right?
French Africa never majority spoke a European language or was Christian like Mexico.
Lucas Torres
Even then, it would have been Just a matter of time for México to be dragged into yet another war with América for the enforcement of Monroe doctrina, there was no possible good outcome of keeping maximiliano
Isaiah Kelly
>Just a matter of time for México to be dragged into yet another war with América for the enforcement of Monroe doctrina, there was no possible good outcome of keeping maximiliano
Why? We never threatened you or invaded you any worse than sending ole Pershing over your borders to chase Pancho, but to be fair at that time your country was so deep in infighting that your borders essentially didn't exist. Your only land shift after that was that useless land we bought up from you south of Arizona so our railroads wouldn't need to be blasted through a mountain.
Nathan Kelly
Kys yourself
Luis Morgan
No chance, it's a fantasy invented by some retards with a group on Facebook that nobody takes seriously.
John Ortiz
so there really isn't that much patriotism in Mexico
