You probably won't pass the background check needed to get a license. But you can buy black powder revolvers like the 1858 I posted without a license (black powder guns are not considered firearms). You can use them as-is or you can buy a .45 Long Colt conversion cylinder to convert it to a firearm. California's checks seem to apply for the purchasing processes so converting it to a firearm should be okay.
