Build the credit or build the guillotine?

17K in medical debt (I think) due to cancer. Collections are on credit reports, but no one is contacting me. Will fall off after 7 years, so December 2019.
Should I get a credit card and start building credit now with these collections on my report, or should I wait until they fall off?
Or is basedsauce a better option?

Get a credit card. Medical bills are so old they won't care.

if I die I'll find you

But thanks I hope this is the best choice...

I remember your thread from maybe a week ago. I'll give you a bump tho I can't give any advice. If no ones contacting you then I would just say fuck it and keep ignoring the problem. After so long I bet the creditors have given up hope of you ever paying anything back

Yea thanks sorry for posting again I just don't want to reset everything and then have to wait another 7 years for it to fall off. How did you know it was me?

Nah it's fine to keep spamming this board with questions till finally some user who knows what he's talking about gives you advice you're looking for.

You just have a very specific and memorable situation and I just happened to remember your case. It was brain cancer, right? And you were young too, like maybe 22 iirc. That's fuckin rough buddy I hope you make it, you deserve it more than any of us.

Thanks! I was 19 actually. It put everything on hold, too, but don't worry The doctors called it a miracle that I was not deaf or blind after the surgery, and to prove I'm not restarted, I have a 3.96 GPA and will be a senior in the fall. Internship starts up tomorrow, too.

Heavenly Father will help us out

You're pretty cool btw

Someone's lookin over your shoulder, definitely. Good shit buddy, things are looking up for you. If I may ask, what major are you studying/what type of work will you be doing at your internship?

I try to be pretty nice and helpful across this board wherever I can. Between all the shilling and shitposting, I know it's really out of place for Jow Forums to be like this but the world is rough, internet is rough. Doesn't have to be so rough all the time tho

Software engineering, and an IT internship. I figured IT would give me the best experience for the computer industry. Every company worries about security.

yea I'm only one here right now because I don't have anywhere else to go and get the advice. 4chunks is usually full of porn and crap, so I avoid this hellhole when I can.

Anons like you are changing my mind, though! Did you graduate from uni yet?

dude BUY HBT

the heck is hbt?
Also, does the kind of credit card i get matter?

Dillan get off my thread

Jow Forums isn't really the best place for advice, most people are misleading on purpose idk why. Have you tried googling some generic version of your problem, looking through forums? I'm sure your situation is not unique and you're not the only one with this problem. Try also contacting some bankruptcy lawyer and going to him, the first consultation is usually free and you can ask him specific questions and get a good answer.

How did you get your IT internship? Asking for a friend, he finished IT too but can't find a job or internship and still works at his shitty grocery store. I've been telling him for a while if he doesn't do something he's gonna get complacent.

I should have graduated right now, this semester, but because of a series of clerical errors by my shitty school I won't graduate until next year. Civil engineering.
Don't listen to him it's some shitcoin. The type of credit card the you can get will depend heavily upon your income. You'll probably get a very low credit limit in the beginning, maybe 1000 bucks

I figured as much. The bitcoin meme is getting tiresome, to be honest.
I agree, and I have done some research, but it never hurts to hear what others have to say, even Jow Forums. There is a reason Cicada is done here.
That stinks about your school. Engineering is good always go for STEM. Art is deadly.
As for the internship, I applied everywhere in my local city. I did everything you usually do, had a good résumé, used Linkedin and Indeed, and made myself available for interviews. Tell your friend to get his internship ASAP, as this experience will save him from killing himself.

Also, about the collections thing on my credit report, are you sure I don't have to worry about it at all? They can't sue me after it falls off? It sounds too good to be true.... I'll start payments after they fall off of course, but still...

Hey don't u be talking shit about muh magic internet meme money. I still firmly believe I'm gonna make it with crypto lol.

Alright that seems like the standard route to getting any job. He's just not doing it... Lazy bum.
Ya I'm pretty mad about the no graduation thing but I have a great job in my field I started a month and I will be able to keep it till the end of the year so at least for the next 6+ months I have guaranteed income.

About the debt stuff, from the way I understand it works is that the primary company you owe the debt to 'sells' their right to collect it to some collection agency usually for a vastly reduced price, like 60% or lower. The debt collection agency just wants to break even so if you pay even just a little more than that 60% off price that they paid, they're happy. But the fact that no ones hounding you for this money, clearly it's not a big deal to the them. Ask someone more credible but I wouldn't worry too much about it

That's also why in the last thread, since you were so worried about it, I suggested calling them up and saying you want to set up a payment plan and you also can't afford anywhere near the total they're asking for. If they get a partial, they'll be happy. But again whether you want to rattle the hive of bees and awake that entire bureaucratic Healthcare mess is up to you..... They're not calling so if it was me i wouldn't stir the pot

BK. Same time frame for the debts on your record, and you have more opportunities to get new credit accounts a lot faster than just letting them sit. The thing is, those collection accounts won't ever go away, they'll come after you and get a judgement, or they'll sell the debt and scumbag bottom feeder debt collectors will harass you forever. Get a judge to tell them to fuck off, and get it over with.
The rule of thumb has always been BK isn't worth it under 10k. You're probably a good candidate.

BK?
Thanks! I thought you were joking with the sam hyde video, but I'll see what I can do

Ignore the bills. I got medical bills sent to collections when I was 20. They disappeared from my credit report last year. I started building credit with CC around 2014 and even bought a car.

Now I own a house and have 750 credit score.

Good luck user

Uhh.... I don't know about sam Hyde, It wasn't me who mentioned his videos.

And ya the other user knows more about this debt collection than I do. Listen to him. Better yet get a lawyer

Build credit with collections on your report?
but of course! Thanks for your help bra!

Um, yes. I got a secure credit card and used it for a year... Then it automatically turned into a normal credit card. I kept applying for more credit and paying it off on time. My medical debt was more like $7k and noone would give me a cc with collections unless it was secured, but I put in the work and it worked out for me.

absolutely definitely get the card ASAP. uni credit union likely to approve you no matter what, even with past-due medical bills. you don't need "good credit" to get "credit approval". they might ask you to put down a deposit/collateral, but they'll still extend you credit -- say, $500 credit limit.
buy something every month (small is fine, like less than $15, even
