Scottish students get free uni in Scotland

>Scottish students get free uni in Scotland
>EU students get free uni in Scotland
>Northern Irish and Welsh students are charged £4500 per year
>English students are charged £9,000 a year

Why do English taxpayers stand for this? Do they secretly like being pay pigs for Jock, Seumus and Pawel?

Is scotland the best country?

We are better than yanks

>Yanks but constantly whining about how bad actual yanks are to non-yanks

yea it's a real improvement bud

All Scottish universities are shit so nobody wants to go there. All the intelligent students go to Oxbridge.

>Why do English taxpayers stand for this?

I mean, I'd understand that there would be tuition fees for private universities but in the UK even publicly tax-funded universities have fucking tuition fees, lmao.

English students outnumber Scottish students at St Andrews and Edinburgh. Those two, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee are all redbrick-tier.
Although on a side note Scottish students get bursaries to attend Oxford or Cambridge that aren't open to English students (friend paid £4500 to go to Oxford and graduated this year).

I think they're even wanting to increase the limit on how much they can charge.

Dude poor people should subsidise middle class teenagers education lmao

They tried to implement a 500€/semester fee in some states a few years ago and the whole university life basically stood still for weeks during the boycotts.

The whole point of it being subsidised is that it opens it up to those poor people

>Jocks

AKA sweaty's AKA sweaty socks

England should keep paying JOCK BVLLS

There were a tonne of protests in London by students when they introduced it here. Some idiots threw a fire extinguisher off a roof and some rockstar's son climbed up the cenotaph so the press ended up focussing on that instead and it passed.

I wondered the same thing when I was in the UK

Actually it was the same situation (I'm a British and Australian citizen)

Despite even being a British citizen, I had to pay full fees for uni in the UK because I hadn't been a resident for 3+ years while people from Romania and Lithuania could get British student loans because EU even if they just arrived in the UK

I couldn't believe it

One of the yanks at my uni gets it free 'cause his grandfather was Irish so he's entitled to Irish citizenship hahaha

Now THAT's banter.

It was just a moment I realized that there were good reasons why people resented the EU

Absolutely baffling. Can go to Paris for the weekend without a visa, but at what fucking cost

2bf England is pretty much the only place in the EU that charges a serious amount to attend a public university. Until tuition fees were introduced in England, English students did have free uni in Scotland. Scottish universities only charge rest-of-UK students what it would cost for a Scottish student to attend uni in their country (hence NI and Wales having lower tuition fees).

Devolution was a mistake

Jock as in Jockstrap?

Not at all

It's allowed the Scottish government to rack up (proportionately) the largest budget decifit in Europe while it's the UK government that's actually on the hook for all borrowing. Independence would have been a mistake, but devolution allows Scotland to milk someone else's cow.

Yea, really opens it up to those poor people when they're taxed out of their ass to pay for it

Publicly funded universities have tuition fees in many countries. Publicly funded healthcare often costs money too per usage, publicly funded swimming pools charge money for entrance, publicly funded transit systems charge money for usage.

You are aware though that German students can be found all over the Netherlands, Belgium and I am sure Denmark too because German universities often are completely overcrowded since there is no drawback to being enrolled?
