How come all the Germans on here know fluent English, but visiting Germany in person, barely anyone could speak it correctly?

I thought 2/3rds of Germany could hold a conversation in fluent English

If they can’t speak English, why would they bother posting here?

Because this is an english speaking imageboard?

Maybe they just didn't want to speak to you

I'm guessing the posters here are younger than average plus this

Yes, this is the reason.
There are also a lot of Mexicans on this imageboard, but if you were to go to Mexico 5% would barely speak English.

I don't speak english to anyone outside work either and I'm fluent in it. I simply refuse to do that in the only small corner of the world where I can speak finnish.

Invade my country
Invade my image board

Whats next?

It works liek this: you visit my country and TRY to blurb at least 2 words in my language and then we can skip to yours OR you stay home and talk english all you want.

>hold a conversation in fluent English

What does "hold a conversation" mean? Like ask how the weather is? or full on conversation about the meaning of life and all that?

your women

Germans can speak English, they just elect not to whenever they please. And to be honest, talking to Yanks... I can hardly blame them.

The Germans who cannot speak English well have no idea about this platform.

I speak English like my native language, and many of my Mexican friends ask me to speak English, but I too refuse to do so.

It's not a necessary skill.
Business people know English but why would the average german worker learn English. He isn't ever going to migrate.

>how come people on a website whose content is in English speak English
Are you retarded

only the elite visits Jow Forums
this applies for every country btw

Depends on where you were visiting and their age group. Also, they might not have many opportunities to speak English, so it sounds off or they aren't comfortable with it.

It's more prelavant in the West and younger Germans but I even had trouble with high school aged kids who worked at gas stations in Bavaria as far as being fluent.

You’re making me blush, Germanbro.

>and many of my Mexican friends ask me to speak English, but I too refuse to do so.

What as a party trick?

When I am approached by what I suspect are Americans I pretend I can't speak English too.

>the average Joe is on Jow Forums

There's a bunch of Latin Americans on here too. But if you see the average illegal on the street (who are usually the best and brightest), they barely speak English

Me too.

>It's more prelavant in the West
bullshit, you probably also think people in eastern Germany voluntarily chose to be part of the Warsaw pact and socialist and learn Russian as first foreign language

Average people don't visit Jow Forums.org/int/. Hell, I'd argue that average people are largely unaware of the English speaking internet.

Well, Tyrone, I would like to excuse on behalf of my Nordic neighbours who we also call the "Schwaben". They, indeed, are not very articulate in English. Even their German is more than substandard. I remember when the teacher in school told us we should not copy the German's Mickey Mouse German. They do have the annoying habit to shorten a lot of words, which is something you would expect rather the deplorables (or as Joe would call them: the dreg) to do. So, quite unironically, we, the Swiss masterrace, write a much more sophisticated German than our Northern underlings.

As far as the English is concerned: Yea, when the huns speak English it sounds quite terrible. Like a night air raid on Dresden, may I add.

Definitely, Krautfren. That's why we got the Cambridge Proficiency in English.

How do all the Romance countries have such shitty English profiency when English is more Latin than Germanic?

>Singapore
>South Africa (Rep. of Sth Africa)
>Malaysia

In those countries, English is the national language or one of the national languages.

In addition, let's not forget that we in Switzerland got a lot of foreigners aka Abschaum who cannot speak English but have received Swiss citizenship.

>The ruined city of Jow Forums Jow Forums board is a social indicator
Americans don't ever stop showing how dumb they are huh?

>in Switzerland got a lot of foreigners aka Abschaum who cannot speak English
in stark contrast to Germany I suppose

Why don’t brits know a second language?

Because we know english. Learning something on top of that is a luxury and not a necessity

how is swabia nordic

>Poland rank 11

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Classic fuck America post. CLASSIC. Please, post more, it's a joke that never gets old!

Swiss don't know how to speak foreign languages other than Intelligible German

It's funny because it- *realizes who he is responding to*

>how is swabia nordic

We call all Germans "Schwaben" or

>Sauschwaben

Doesn't matter where they come from.

>Germans: Schwaben
>Shitalians: Sautschinggen or just Tschinggen

How come Swiss German is different than standard German? Swiss French and Swiss Italian aren’t that different from what the standard is

>he thinks we're joking

I didn't have this experience when I was there whether it was a bank, supermarket, pharmacy or a shop. Most people knew.
