well, i personally won't claim to know more than any japanese person, and maybe someone would care to disagree, but from what i can see japan seems to want to globalize more. you will probably see more western culture, more english loanwords, etc...

i don't hate western culture but i believe cultures and languages have a "right" not to interfere with eachother. so, among other things, i find the fact that japanese people as a whole are replacing older japanese words with english ones just because they sound "cool" repulsive... language is a large part of culture too, and to replace language is to replace culture

not really. japan is always insular and will. i was a hardcore manga reader/sf anime sucker and have played too many jp vidyas in japanese, and bought some japanese street wears so im not that casual.

still i used to always underestimate japanese culture and consume mainly western cultural stuff. except for the above.

i still think most japanese culture is trash, but objectively western cultures getting worse than it. not that japan is getting better but the west has gone to shit by themselves. i unwillingly had to reduce my time playing with western stuff. such as movies, music, etc.
