We don't. Really bad cities like Detroit are shrinking every year, most of Detroit is fucking empty and depopulated by now, it feels like walking through Pripyat.

The rural = cheap is a myth. Rural Wyoming is often prohibitively expensive.

Very. Laramie has colder winters than Anchorage Alaska.

How are roads in these states, is infrastructure any good?

When I was there the roads seemed well maintained considering how long they go across areas with no people.

Of course there are going to be exceptions. But smaller towns are almost always going to be more expensive. Dallas is pretty cheap to live in as far as cities go, but my rent is still 3 times as much for less space.
