Scandinavian-American ethnic separatism

this is from the 2010 census, it is showing the largest ethnic group in certain areas, there are areas on this map that have large populations of Scandinavian-Americans but people of German origin are still more numerous.

However, unlike the rest of the country, the Midwest is overwhelmingly people of Scandinavian and German origin making the Midwest the least diverse region in America and being the closest region in America to being ethnically homogeneous.

That was true, but also because we didn't want to assimilate into the wider American culture, and the overwhelming majority of these immigrants came from Vestlandet in Norway, though there were also waves of people from Sweden too, barley any Danes made their way to the United States.

If you live in Minneapolis yes, but Ethnic English people are a minority in London, Minneapolis is the acceptation, not the rule, and that's because it's one of the few actual urban areas in the region.

They do exist, but that doesn't change the fact that Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota are the closest states to being ethnically homogeneous in the country, and people of English origin in these regions are certainly not close in numbers to Scandis and Germans in the region.

New England still has us beat out in terms of homogeneity

North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota are all between 30-40% Scandinavian, and the Percent German is around the same, however Scandinavians populate the very northern part of these areas for the most part very close toe the Canadian border. Germans occupy the southern parts of these states closer to the other German belt states. so we could actually just give the southern half of Minnesota to the Germans and take the Northern half and do the same with North Dakota, South Dakota and the Upper Peninsula.

if we split Northern Minnesota from Southern Minnesota it would be around 90% ethnic Scandinavians.

I have family from both Norway and Sweden and I can tell you that's not true, most Norwegians just run across the border to do their shopping because it's cheaper in Sweden and they have higher wages in Norway, likewise many Swedish people get jobs in Norway because they pay higher.

I've thought about it, there's 4.5 Million Norwegian-Americans living in this region, a lot came in the first wave in the 1860s, others came after World War II, many of the families living here have been farming this land for a few generations now since they left Vestlandet primarily, if America continues to destabilize further I think it's time to rise up and seize the opportunity. You know, the Icelandic and Farose peoples were once Norwegians, but they found land of their own and created their own nations, kind like we did, but we came here more recently than they did., but half a millennium.

In total across the US, the minority-majority of Norwegian Americans live in the area around Minnesota and the Dakotas and is around 1.5 million or so, nearly two million if you throw in Wisconsin

The vast majority of them aren't fluent in Norwegian, although the region has adopted Norwegian phonetics in the regional accent, for which the citizens of the Dakotas and Minnesota are mocked

The government has been trying to force us to assimilate for literal centuries now, the Cajuns, Texas Germans, Pennsylvania Germans are in the same boat, there is kinda a region why a lot of us settled in the middle of nowhere where we wouldn't be bothered by anybody and we didn't have to assimilate really, but since World War II is when the government really started stepping up it's forceful assimilation process, though I'm in the minority of Scandinavian-Americans that speak a Nordic language, many Scandinavian-Americans in the Midwest have held onto their traditions, culture and Lutheran faith

My Norwegian is better than my Swedish, but I sometimes accidentally interchangeably use Swedish and Norwegian grammar as a result of my father being of Norwegian extraction and my mother being of Swedish extraction and learning both, I speak bokmål and not nynorsk though when you hear Norwegian-Americans speak you may notice we have our own dialekt

My dad has actually been sperging out about this. One of our distant relatives in Norway paid for some genealogical research and now we have this whole family tree that goes back centuries. He totally has a Hollywood perception though and its annoying.

There are still communities of people who speak Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish in the midwest, Finland, Minnesota, Lindström, MN, New Gotland, KS, Oslo, MN, ect are several examples of these small towns, most of which have under 1000 people.

Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit of time in the middle of fucking nowhere in the midwest.
