How come you never see Italians take ownership of the Roman Empire online during discussions? Like the rest of Europe is so proud of their history and tries to bring it up whenever possible, the Turks bring up ottomans, Persians being up their etc. But never Italians, why? Are they trying to disown it or what?

I don't think very much about the Roman Empire (although I'm personally more of a fan of the Roman Republic) and I don't have very strong opinions about it.
I mean, I know it was one of the greatest empires in the history of mankind, and I know its existence and its culture contributed to shape Europe for centuries; but I personally try to not idealize it: once you study its history, you come to realize it wasn't perfect nor infallible.
Or maybe I just don't like empires, who knows?
