1500? This is interesting because in 1551 most of the population of Gozo was enslaved by the Ottomans, so modern Gozitans are not their descendants. However some slaves did manage to return back iirc.

If I'm understand this correctly, this might be the origins to the surname "Sultana", which is cool. It's a bit confusing due to the events of 1551. Like I said some people returned and not everyone was captured. I don't know what to make of this. What does explain tho is where my Turk/caucasus dna trace on Ancestry might've came from, if the knights freed slaves and let them roam around.
