You like the aesthetics of power rather than the practical effects of policy making. Monarchies are a very clear representation of state power while the market also has an aesthetic of power associated with things like being an entrepreneur. It sounds like deep down you dislike the modern state because it is associated with a managerial view life as opposed to a heroic one. Read Orwell's essay on Power Worship cause it really states the whole process pretty well

Not weird. The boundaries of what a monarch can do are much clearer and the people more wary of goverment expansion. In a democracy the “will of the people“ justifies overy goverment overreach. Of course that only works with proper monarchies where the monarch still holds some power. Taxes were much lower when proper monarchies still ruled in europe.
