Wrong. In a traditional patriarchy there is a balance between rights and duties, responsibilities and authority. The two increase linearly. The man may bear full responsibility for the well-being and even life of his women, but he has authority over them. For example, in the Netherlands as recently as the 1960s a man could legally declare any purchase his wife made over 50 guilders invalid. If a woman wanted to spend more than 50 guilders (ie. more than basic groceries) she needed explicit permission from her husband, because she was spending her husband's money.
