Actually German obsession with feces goes back to the Freud's concept of an anal retentive personality.

Not just that, but they frequently edit the interviews in such a way that even the people who could name a book look like they can't name a book. Like the person will pause for a moment to think and say something non-committal and then they'll just end it there.
