ß indicates that the vowel that comes before is a long vowel while ss makes the vowel short.

Honestly, I unironically wish USA will eventually get TACO'd to the point Spanish will be its dominant and constitutional language because it's far superior to English in virtually any regard, just like most of Romance languages.
Whatever's interesting in American culture was taken from Mexico anyway (cowboys, wrestling, tons of cuisine), so you might just as well take that last step and adopt the language, perhaps with some quirky new accent or whatever to make it more distinct. Surely it would be less shameful than speaking the language of your former abusive overlords.
