Hello fellow scandinavians, I've been anticipating the coming of Amazon to our countries. Does anyone know any inside info about when the launch will come? I've heard black friday but I have no idea I just hope soon.
I'm interested in discussing the impact that the arrival of Amazon will have on the e-tailer market, any thoughts?
Personally I can't wait for some of our throatcut bandit shopowners to feel real competition
But I already buy my clothes mostly from UK and electronics from Germany What exactly does Amazon brings you can't already order from other shops? Most online stores ship all over EU
Same-day free shipping if you're prime and a massive (hopefully) inventory, cheaper electronics (hopefully) and their entire automated ecosytem
Thomas Nelson
Amazon delivers your shit on the same day you ordered. There's a new distribution warehouse near me and they have drone deliveries.
Brayden Nguyen
No and in Norway we cannot import from the german or british warehouses because we're not part of the damned EU, so for us the coming of Amazon will hopefully mean major changes.
Cameron Ward
I don't think very highly of amazon desu, cheap, sure maybe, but they're assholes to a lot of their workers.
Hudson Taylor
Youre in the free market zone. It's the same shit as being in the EU
Colton Ross
Do you have to pay 25% tax and a 20 euro fee for anything over 35 euros? we do and therefore most don't really import expensive stuff
Joseph Edwards
And they dont ship to Norway, dude, if you check "ships to Norway" then most items dissappear, not kidding you my finnish sauneer
On the one hand I don't want Amazon here, because I dislike Amazon. But I also dislike Sweden and would very much want for Swedes and Sweden to suffer from the policies they have voted for.
Amazon won't come here because taxes and regulations.
Ryan Young
Yeah some stores don't ship here neither, but most do. You're in the single market it works as if you were in the EU. No taxes.
Ian Rogers
If an EU member (let's use Finland as an example) import something from Amazon Germany they have to pay German vat.(included in the price) and that's it, no fee or Finnish vat etc.
Luke Richardson
Same here. +Have not bought anything over there that I could not find somewhere else same prized.
+For the majority of things I like ebay and used stuff.
Caleb Watson
Thank god, i cant fucking wait if Amazon starts delivering here. Right now i have to buy from America, get a third party PO box service to then ship it to UPS in Europe, who then has to ship it to me. Fuck sake just get it here already
>You're in the single market it works as if you were in the EU. That's wrong, we are in the singel market, but if we import something from Germany we have to pay Norwegian vat
Isaac Garcia
BUY AMERICAN U Y
A M E R I C A N
Dominic Brown
Ok didn't know that
Luis Nguyen
cause norway isn't in the eu
Oliver Brooks
Please support our childrens clothes store! It's called "Baby er kult" and has imported china items and mom-garbage for a ridiculous price! It's all plastic but if we have to face real competition our shitty business would go bankrupt and Norway would lose jobs!
Daniel Perez
why would it be cheaper for you? wouldn't importing things from other countries still make items cost a bit more?
Andrew Rivera
I buy music from music Bazaar. Do u have other better recs?
Carter Garcia
Guys, out of experience. If you gonna buy cheap clothes, unironically buy Hindu stuff instead of Chinese. Their prices are the same, but the quality difference is ridiculous.
Jace Cook
Isn't Amazon ran by a Norwegian? Also, can't you use Amazon online anyway? What difference does it make if it comes to your country?
Elijah Parker
I know I thought the being in the single market meant there's no extra fees. On the other hand our customs fucks us over with alcohol imports when ordering from Germany
Josiah Myers
I don't have anything against the vat., the problem is the 158 nok fee our postal service charge us for calculating 25% vat. for products with a value above 350 nok
Owen Torres
We can import some items generally not anything we actually want lol, if the warehouse was in sweden however or in all the countries it'd "open up" most of their items I think.
Grow. Up. Do you think humanity made it this far by caring about the individual? Did Julius Caesar stop chasing the Helvetti because one of his soldiers had sore feet? Man up and deal with it.
Lincoln Reyes
So nobody has insider info? :(
Lucas Barnes
As long as they don't use postnord for shipping in Norway it will be great. Fuck Postnord
Luis Carter
Why do europoors keep letting the American economic squid take over their country?
Parker Flores
Wasn't it the otherway around? That's what Trump said
Chase Ramirez
Cheaper, prime shipping which comes with prime tv, here they are linked to whole foods so you can get groceries, kindle, etc.
Blake Baker
>amazon, jippie!! comsumerism is good for the economy
As if we have any choice, it's not an "american" company anymore its global
Andrew Richardson
because of competition, when amazon arrives in norway they will most likely offer cheaper products and faster shipping. the norwegian firms will have to adapt, or go broke
Oliver Thomas
if only everyone was as smart and enlightened as you
you plan on buying those panties now that you dont have to make eye contact, bengt?
Joshua Brooks
You people do realize how Amazon operates, right? It's not Amazon producing 99% of the stuff they sell, it primarily serves to connect buyer and seller. Including local producers that wouldn't have been able to survive without the massive exposure a site like Amazon provides.
Jose Campbell
Yeah, I just wish this could be done via a not so consentrative way. But it is better than nothing. Anyhow, Internet concentrationism like Amazon, FB etc is just a phase, just like the Net Anarchy in the beginning. Some better and more immediate networks will surface in the future.
Austin Thompson
The word is “cutthroat”
I like that they raised their minimum wage to $15/hr
Jordan Butler
Why? Amazon works in america because walmart kill our small business and we have to rely on them.
Europe has small business and shop owners you guys dont really need them
Connor Roberts
You person do realize its just dumb fucking garbage products that benefit from this, right? >But it is better than nothing. its literally not
James Thompson
>Europe has small business and shop owners At least for Sweden this is not at all the case. It's mostly foreign companies that come here, dump prices to force domestic actors out of the market only to find it wholly unprofitable a couple of years down the line, after which they leave the country
Zachary Carter
This tbqh. Lidl was the best thing that happened to us
Grayson Edwards
All blessings are to some degree curses.
Jacob Walker
this is on the same level as drug use, honestly just slit your wrists already
Chase Rogers
>muh small companies >le ebil big corporation I've worked at both and from my experiences working environment in big corporation is much better. You just do the shit you are paid for while in smaller ones you often have a lot of other stuff to do and more responsibility
Thomas Howard
Amazon is amazing. If you send something back you always get your cash back without problems. Also if there is any sort of problem whatsoever they always give you coupons or some shit.
Best thing that happened to shopping. Also prepare for weekly crying articles from other shops in all newspapers because Amazon is stealing their customers.
Isaac Lopez
You'll eventually get out of the phase where you think you're so much more enlightened than everyone else around you. Just ask yourself, what are the odds that it was you in particular that was blessed with such a magnificent intellect when all other people are such tools? It's infinitely more likely that it's your self-perception that is playing tricks on your mind.
wtf. How did you survive all these years without it? It's been maybe 10 years I use it.
Kevin Morris
Won't lie, amazon is great for buying things. Prices are getting a little higher but it's still better than my experience with ebay or newegg
Jose Williams
>Best thing that happened to shopping This. I have no sympathy for small shops owners playing the victims when they always treated their customers like literal shit.
Cameron Gomez
Holy shit. This is a joke, right? You guys didn't have Amazon? Lmaooo. What's next? You tellin me that you still use credit cards and other outdated technologies?
Levi Butler
>You tellin me that you still use credit cards and other outdated technologies? In germany I encountered to a problem where they didn't take anything but cash
Carter Phillips
Debit cards are way more accepted here than credit cards. German vendors are not so stupid to pay transaction fees for a service they can get for free.
Jace Thomas
>You tellin me that you still use credit cards and other outdated technologies? Sweden is cashless to a much greater extent than Germany. It's not necessarily a good thing.
Credit never really caught on here, by the way. Debit's been the way to go since it was introduced.
Gavin Ward
>4 God damn i am so jelly
Benjamin Turner
Isn’t Walmart declining? I know with our local food movement McDonald’s has been hemorrhaging money the last several years. But I’ve noticed they make less garbagey food nowadays.
Gavin Gomez
Amazon pays their employees pretty well. I know they’re opening a distribution center in a redneck suburb of my city and everyone there’s happy about it. I don’t think that town’s had new jobs in years.
Isaiah Baker
>Implying Amazon will EVER come to Iceland
Have you not heard about their labour practices? Such activities are entirely illegal in Iceland. Besides, the national bourgeoisie would never allow it.
They may be greedy bastards, but regarding this matter, at the present moment their interests are aligned with the proletarian working masses and against imperialist economic subversion.
I can already buy everything I need, what exactly is so revolutionary about amazon?
Angel Anderson
2 hour delivery.
Logan Anderson
but i can wait
Isaiah Martinez
Do they really have this fast delivery?
Jayden Diaz
There are already a number of great shops for electronics here so I don't need amazon for that. I do need it for kitchen stuff because the stores are absolute trash.
Isaac Cooper
Yes, they also have 1-hour delivery, but that one isn't free/affordable with membership like the 2-hour one. It's only available in Berlin and München so far though.
The regular, same-day Prime delivery is usually the way to go as it's available for pretty much all products for "free" (€8/month or €70/year membership).
Josiah Jenkins
Wow.. Amazon.de takes four days to deliver to the Netherlands (if they do it at all) and an extra €10 delivery costs. Everyone here uses bol.com and don't think Amazon will get a chance to even compete with them for a long time. Bol.com owns the market.
