Honestly? The war itself wasn't really taught that much at my school. Obviously we touched on the really important things - from a British perspective at least - like the Battle of Britain, Dunkirk, Normandy, North Africa campaign, Malaya etc; but much more focus was given on the causes and lead up to the war itself. The treaty of Versailles, hyperinflation, the rise of the Nazis, Munich Putsch, Chamberlain's appeasement etc.

-no mention of concentration camps
-definition of fascism and presentation of Hitler and Mussolini ( no diabolization at all of the two characters )

Sudetenland was a political victory. Even in Poland and France he didn't direct the battle himself. He listened to the generals advice and greenlighted their plans. He didn't personally order divisions around on the map. Basically millions of troops died because they weren't allowed to make tactical withdrawals, let alone strategical withdrawals to reform the battle lines and so on. If you look at his command decisions in 1942 and onward its quite clear that he has reverted to demanding that the army uses a static WW1 type of defence. He persistently refused to understand that his armies greatest asset (its mobility) was useful for defence and instead wasted his strategical resources for massive offensives which served no purpose other than occupying huge landmasses without gaining any decisive strategic objectives.

We learn about Hitler and the Holocaust first, we learn that Hitler was the most evil person in history and how he hated everyone that wasn't blonde or blue eyes. Then we learn all about how Hitler invaded everyone else because he wanted to take over the world, how he bombed the shit out of London and how the British heroically rippled him in the Battle of Britain (allied bombings of German cities are never mentioned) that he was friends with the Russians first but then betrayed them. Then Japan attacked America for no reason at all causing America to go into the war, they defeat Germany and Italy with minor assistance from Britain and Russia, then they drop two nukes on Japan ending the war.

Go figure we have a huge focus on the Kokoda Track, wish I was taught about our involvement in north Africa but a lot of our general attitude towards the wars is about the sacrifice made by soldiers so I think focusing on battles where we were based would kind of contradict that.

To be fair, my school didn't go too deep into contemporary history. Barely the 30s. Covered the early 20th century to modern days in more detail while in university.
