I am kinda weary due to all the anime autists that are in there learning it - is it worth it? Is the country good or are things as cold and depressing as I think they are?

Learning languages usually only works when you actually want to learn them
If you don't, you'll just give up halfway(if you even get that far)
Maybe look around for jobs that require Japanese and you'll see what options there are in your vicinity
