Seriously, barring the few wehraboos that browse here, it’s all folks that complain about LGBT^2 stuff, or the “G-word” (Gaijin) and preach open borders and all that. Don’t take my word for it, go take a look at any japanese page aimed at english speakers on facebook or twitter. The comments are riddled with white folks and pajeets buttmad about comfortgirls, equal gender representation, pacifist constitution revisement, discrimination of Ms Osaka and on and on and on.
So to rephrase my question: Why are these open border regressive lefties so passionate about this homogeneous xenophobic island nation? Is it exoticism? Is it anime?

It's an addiction/preference to the kawaii-uguuu culture portrayed in the usual animu/vidya gaem, which can sometimes be arguably better than the medieval & post-apocalyptic, rainy, doom & gloom fetish the West perpetuates. They generally mistaken this as representing the majority culture, and usually see the more cheery representation when they're kids, so it makes Nippon look more welcoming.
It also doesn't help that the West can't do "kawaii" in its cartoons for shit. They either do something with disfigured characters that barely look human or they otherwise can't do much of shit.
You'd have to contrast that South Park doesn't really have an equivalent in Japland, which to me means Japland sucks.
