Je sais tes sentiments.
My French is atrocious, I always just keep forgetting to study it and lurking /fr/ threads only goes so far.

sell me on a language, i've got years to pass

Pyccкий. I usually shill German but yeah

French - exploding very fast because of Africa's booming population + France, West Switzerland, Luxembourg, half of Belgium, and Quebec speak it, easy and many resources
Spanish - Latin America, Guinea Equatorial (the one African country that speaks it) and Spain speak it, 2nd most spoken language in the world after Chinese, easy and many resources

Anki kicks my ass and forces me to learn. I put the entire bescherelle grammar series, 5000 words, and being forced to do it everyday makes me improve a lot

Attached: Screenshot_20181012_212529.png (626x332, 19K)

Russian - spoken in Russia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, and Russian speakers make up half of Latvia and a third of Estonia. Very useful for employment or picking up qts.

Also Turkmenistan speaks Russian

Btw US and Spain have around the same number of Spanish speakers and US will surpass Spain with the number of Spanish speakers in a few years

its already happened lol RIP

Indonesian, it's spoken by 200mil+ people, it's considered one of the easiest non-asian languages to learn for westerners and Indonesia has a very interesting history,. The downsides are that native speakers are really far away and that Indonesia has a fairly small economy for it's size so it won't provide as many economic oppurtunities as the languages that swissbro recommends.

What is Anki?

Malay is basically the same as Indonesian so he could have economic opportunities in Malaysia. And SEA girls love white guys and there spam European guys on Interpals so he'd get a lot of pussy if he learned it.

Its also spoken in Brunei and 14% of Singapore which are pretty wealthy countries

It's funny how every time I read that as Aniki and feel the urge to listen to Gachi again.
It's a pretty unhealthy habit.

I'm pretty bored, why not Polish?

Pros:
Polish girls are qt
Poland is part of EU so you'd have much more chances to practice Polish than let's say Russian, and Poland is near Denmark
Nice cities like Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan, etc
Poles are willing to speak to you in Polish and help you, unlike Swedish/Norwegian/Dutch where they switch to English as soon as they hear you struggling
Cons:
Much more difficult than a Germanic language, many foreign words that you cannot guess the meaning of if you have no background in Slavic languages
Not as many learning resources

I've done research before and polish grammar seems extremely inconsistent and obnoxious
Aren't polish girls completely materialistic psychocunts? Not saying out women are particular great though

>i've got years to pass
don't we all

>polish grammar seems extremely inconsistent and obnoxious
That's part of the ride friend

youtube.com/watch?v=JwYX52BP2Sk

Its true sadly but they are good for one night stands.

>grammar seems extremely inconsistent and obnoxious
Name one language that isn't German or Chinese were this doesn't happen

Listened to this song so much during my teen days that now I feel like puking as soon as I hear the first minute

>now I feel like puking as soon as I hear the first minute
It's a shame how some things end up like that. I definitely have some songs like that.

I was speaking by Slavic language standards, I ended up picking up Russian because it's relatively consistent (fuck word stress though) of the useful ones

>german
>consistent
oh no no no no

It's extremely consistent

>tons of irregular verbs
>gender system completely random
>"""""""""""regular"""""""""""

I can't speak for Russian but i'm at roughly B1 with Polish and Serbo-croatian and i can't say one's grammar is significantly more annoying than the other

Flash card app. I set myself a daily revision schedule, so it forces me to revise or else it'll pile up for the next day. also not clearing my anki causes me OCD so i have to do it
i take advantage of that and put grammar rules/expressions/vocabulary in french and it really helps me out
pic related just started bescherelle grammar pour vouz

Attached: Screenshot_20181012_225007.png (977x1009, 171K)

You can say that about most languages

> about most languages
*most indo-european languages

Either way it has far less arbitrary memorization than most languages, I didn't say it had none

>I ended up picking up Russian because it's relatively consistent
how is Russian more "consistent" than Polish?

what about memrise?

Far less irregular verbs and exceptions, though this is just what I read. Cyrillic was also neat at first but now I'm sick of it

haven't tried anything else honestly, i'm just really familiar with anki as I use it for a lot of other things in my life. it's also customizable as fuck, can use JS and latex on it and shit

dont you get used to the writing system the more you study it? i heard bulgarian is the easiest slavic language because it doesn't have cases

It still slows things down for a while. What I really hate is letters like B, P and H which are/look similar to English letters but have completely different sounds

>at least 3 months until Gomorrah S4 is out
LET ME IMMERSE MYSELF YOU ITALIAN BASTARDI

Attached: images.jpg (255x197, 10K)

can anyone recommend some literal Chinese cartoons? I've been enjoying the mandarin dub of shin chan, I'm looking for stuff at a similar level

Similarly the ones that look nothing like English letters such as Ч, Д, and Ж are nice and quick to read except voicing/devoicing pairs but that's a whole separate tangent to ramble about

>Memorizing the meaning of individual words... is pretty much pointless. If you want actual fluency, you need to see a word in as many example sentences as possible.
Bilingual bros is this true in your experience?

Full adjectives are 100% consistent in Russian, and we also have a smaller nomenclature of noun endings, but that's it. Our verbs have the same irregularities as Polish ones + one has to remember the accent paradigm for every non-trivial verb (it's a problem for all changeable parts of speech except for full adjectives), the formation of comparative and superlative degrees is a total mess, and pretty much every neuter noun uses its own way to derive a diminutive. I don't understand why people believe that the Russian grammar is easier.

Not entirely true but has some basis to it. in terms of time invested vs vocabulary gained, it's very inefficient. you'll need to spend thousands of hours browsing forums and reading books to get the same vocabulary as you would from a 10 minutes a day anki revision for a year.

most people saying this say this regarding how they learned english, when they spent literal tens of thousands of hours practicing english and thinking in retrospect "yeah im pretty good in english so this is the way" when they ignore just how much time they spent practicing it

Please don't dissuade me from continuing Russian, it's basically the only slav language I want to learn

so yeah, it's a very shitty method in my opinion if you spend a limited time immersing yourself. sure, if you spend 8 hours a day playing video games and reading books and forums and chans for 10 years, you'll get pretty familiar with english.
If you'll spend 10 minutes a day reading /deutsch/ and another 30 watching a german episode of something, you'll barely progress

>napoletano

better luck trying to understand finnish

no it isn't

yes this came up some time before, maybe I'm a bad example since I work in IT and we are more prone to do stuff like that
I can understand your point regarding my invitation though, i feel like they've been slacking a lot lately when it comes to inburgering en naturalisatie

Been doing some more research, generally what I'm seeing (both from Russian and Polish natives) is Russian is easier except for Cyrillic and random word stress

>easier
Are you learning languages solely to up your count? If not, go for whichever one you have more passion for.

Russian is Czech lite

I picked up Russian because I wanted something difficult and consistent as a third language (fourth if you count A1 level Swedish but I don't). Difficulty aside I do like usefulness and ubiquity because it gives me chances to use it which also was a huge selling point

Speaking of Russian WHAT THE FUCK IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN Ш AND Щ I KEEP GETTING REALLY CONFUSING EXPLANATIONS

>learning two langs for the price of one
Sounds good to me.

Nah, m8. I was just arguing against comments like this:
Even if Russian was the most difficult language on Earth, it would still be way more worth learning than any other Slavic language.

always depends on the learning goal, so that's not inherently true

Muh heritage/immigration/romances may create exceptions, yes.

I will never learn Russian

I meant the embed thing. Russian is fun but unless you really like learning it'll end up being a headache. Speaking of which I have a headache and these free drinks at my hotel aren't helping

Enjoyed that video, thanks buddy

what would your selling point be? "you can speak to other russian people and read russian literature"
like do you just assume that people want that? lol

that doesnt mean shit, we are talking about consistency with rules, germans never made up a rules about gender so by definition it isnt inconsistent, and every european lang has a irregular verbs mario, stop being a fucking brainlet and learn german

basado en rojopillado

Can someone help me with using Anki? I'm not really sure how it works and I didn't now you could download specific settings for it. I'm learning German by the way

Unironically started using Aderall and it helps so much, I can sit for the whole day studying and being focused and I enjoy it so much
I use Memrise which is basically the same concept of using spaced repetition and more user friendly

I have an Adderall rx from when I was I school and it is pretty based as long as you end up focusing on the right things

This. Aderall raised my grades exponentially. I went from almost dropping out of uni to having top scores.

in total 3 years la.

2015 took 2 german classes but could barely string a short sentence together , met new german friends and was practicing speaking german more now

took a whole year break from german till summer 2016
(this is when I found the key to learn german to an advance level)

• All I did was get a german textbook like "wie gehts" or Treffpunk , read 1 chapter a day , do all writing exercises for grammar (as boring as it sounds it helps you speak it correctly) .
• I learned all the vocabulary in each chapter

• Watched German videos on youtube, wrote down phrases or words I didnt know

• Used online practice exams for the B1 or B2 exams and practiced hearing and reading.

• Talk at least 2 times a week to a german speaker (I talki or interpals can help)
• when I got a more advance level started watching german news and tried to understand the main part of it

hope that helps you guys

English fucks with your brain in terms of word order

If you want something similar to German then go with Greek. Articles, cases, and three genders.

If you want to be really crazy then go with a non-IE language.

French is good for many reasons, but spanish is good too.

>articles, cases, and three genders
so like most indo-european languages except for english lol

>"C1"
>moeglich instead of mö

KYS.

guess it's just the keyboard, however, one could just use the American International Layout, this way you can create ö by pressing " + o.

just do like most people ITT and learn an irrelevant meme language

For example, why not learn Sardinian? Do it, faggot.

Except for Romance Languages, and Slavic Languages, Farsi, and most Germanic languages.

But yeah if you exclude like 80% of them then 20% will have articles, cases, and 3 genders :^)

This, I speak English and Afrikaans natively and I've always wanted to learn a 3rd language but have no idea what to pick
