Its still testnet so it doesnt matter right now, the profit comes from the amount of users using your node, so even if you're early and live in a shit area with no people you wont make a lot of profit

Once the smalltown guy is connected, he can essentially start his own business as an ISP. Setting up a wifi meshnet through homes and businesses in the town. They'd pay him and all the traffic would go through his node and the subsequent nodes upstream.

I just noticed something: if there are currently slightly above 1900 nodes, and let's say most of the official skyminers are connected (how many were shipped, 200, 300?), with 8 nodes per official miner, then there are not so many DIY in the waiting list. Worst case scenario:
200 official miners submitted = 1600 nodes.
300 DIY nodes divided by 4 nodes per DIY miner average = 75 DIY miners.
Hell, that looks more promising that I though, considering when I submitted there were like 1100 nodes or so.
