No, but my story is. It's monster-of-the-week, but the characters are the main focus, so I can't figure out how to balance monster-mystery and character development. Then, a bigger problem for both, one MC has no character. She was semi-intentionally a blank slate, but I have no idea where to take her or how she should act. Paper thin and unacceptable. Maybe an even bigger problem, they're supposed to develop across a few encounters, but I need to establish them first, which takes so much time and split attention. Combining action and exposition, without detracting from either, is making me want to be dead

Do you have graphomania? You don’t really need to establish a character, the best way is to show, not to tell. I think, at least. I, too, spent too much time on exposition but soon I realized it’s boring as fuck. Like, why would anyone want to know what a character is before seeing him in action? It doesn’t make sense when you think about it. Exposition is pointless when it comes to characters, I think. Though throwing hints here and there might be an effective way to tell about them through “background”

I agree for personalities, but my issue is my characters' problems stem from their races and cultures. Without detailed (or at least sufficient) context, their problems make no sense.

For example:
The monsters are sometimes supernatural, right? Well, the monkey-man MC comes from an ancestor-descendant worshipping society, where they invoke legendary/mythical histories to solve supernatural problems. That works flawlessly in their culture, because their problems and solutions match, but this character left home and lives in other cultures now. So his rituals only work sometimes. And his faith/heritage are increasingly shaky. Plus other things are happening with the invocations and whatnot, and he's getting sleazier, and so on

The problem:
If the reader doesn't know this, they think everything is arbitrary. His methods work or don't depending on what's convenient for the story, when that couldn't be farther from the truth. But how do you sit down and SAY all that while keeping the action going? Especially with two other equally important characters with their own cultures, backgrounds, and trifles. Plus a fuckdamn monster to hunt, WITH THEIR OWN BACKGROUNDS AND PURPOSES. Christ

Then, as I said, you can hint it, for example through dialogue or some kind of background noise, or explain step by step within the action itself, like it seems illogical at first, but once the shit starts every action is supported by some key words. You should try that.

I tried something similar. When the monster first appears, monkey-man performs an invocation. It works flawlessly, but another MC is harmed, and the monster isn't-- it's an early twist, revealing that MC as a specific supernatural beastie, and the monster to be a meat-and-guts physical monster. Monkey inadvertently harmed a pal, pal's caught in a lie, and both learn monster traits. The next scene is right back to them hanging around and discussing, though. I'll figure out how to tie them together. Might trash and rework everything for now

If you only say the 10 words, you won't attract an audience. Plus, videos need point and direction-- you can't just observe or explain. Videos need destinations.
Which is why I prefer podcasts and streaming: you need no destination. But those formats are rough and tough
