I mean, hypersonic is literally only mach 5 or more, the problem with it, is that as technology has advanced, air dogfights are taking place further and further away from each other, BVR vs WVR, stealth vs maneuverability.

Only the far end of hypersonic is as high as one aircraft can go before it needs to be designed with thermal control as its foremost dominant design feature. With the materials we have now, means being forced into designing something into blunt configurations, see the rounded cone shapes of entry vehicles coming into the atmosphere (which reentry is hypersonic). Only aircraft stealth favors angles and reflection, rounded or blunt shapes will massively reduce overall stealth capabilities of an aircraft.

In short, hypersonic is probably the end of the line for aircraft. Anything further beyond hypsersonic will need to have designs that make massive hits in terms of stealth and targeting defence, which is the direction aviation combat has been going for 70 years.

Probably why the US has invested a lot into electromagnetic stealth actually.
