He is only mentioned in the Primary Chronicle, which states clearly that Rus' were from the same stock as Swedes. And there are many other written sources calling early Rus' Scandinavian. There are byzantine pacts with Rus' names - all Scandinavian names in first documents, later also some Slavic names.
What you are referring to is genetic study on 20th century Russian nobility, who CLAIM to be descendants of RURIKID DYNASTY. First of all, they can claim whatever they want - doesn't mean it's true. Secondly, Rurikid dynasty mixed to shit with all kinds of people - Slavs, Cumans, Byzantines and most likely with some Finno-Ugrians (this is key - not FINNS, but Finno-Ugrians). So this study was rightfully criticized by many and it shouldn't be used as some proof of genetic composition of Rurik or early Rurikids, for that matter.
