Americans are really autistic about teeth. Anything less than a full set of perfectly-straight, blindingly-white gravestones is considered bad. It's one of the reasons they mock our teeth, despite the fact that we have the best dental hygiene in the world (look it up). But because our teeth aren't perfectly straight and have their natural, yellowish tinge, we're assaulted with the same, trite "durr Brits have bad teef" meme.

It started back in the world wars. The British gave up something like 95% of their toothpaste (could have been around 97%, I could be wrong) to their sailors in the Royal Navy because of the very real threat of being at sea on a naval evasion from the Germans (or even a chase during the later years) for months. When the Americans and French arrived in England they immediately noticed the less-than-impressive teeth the British had at the time and more often than not they would tell their families back home about this oddity. Once the British Sailors returned en masse in 1945 the civilians noticed their perfect shiny white teeth from using and even consuming so many dental products that a pearly white smile was called a “sailor’s grin” by the English. The trend was taken back to the states by jealous American troops

Moreover, you're lying to yourself if you think the average mainland European has better teeth than us. You don't and I say that as someone who's visited more than 15 countries.
