American /trv/fag here. Gonna spend about five days around Thanksgiving in Bogota, Colombia.
Any Colombros have advice on interesting day-trips around Bogota? I've visited Colombia once before, in 2015, and saw most of the city's main sights. Already planning to spend part of at least one day doing the Catedral de Sal. Not sure what else I'll do, though. Any ideas?
>inb4 get shot
I've already been to Colombia, half a dozen other Latin American countries, Iraq, Detroit, etc.
I know this is more of a /trv/ question, but I've actually gotten really good travel advice on Mexico off /b/, Jow Forums and Jow Forums before, so figured I'd give it a try.
>tfw spend 1.5 months in CDMX over the summer >fifth day in apartment >see a dude get shot in the road behind my building
>tfw still love CDMX

What interests you? There's a shit ton of nice little towns with colonial architecture in Boyacá Could go south to Villavicencio and see some nature in the eastern planes Go west towards Ibagué/Armenia and visit parque del café/ parque nacional los nevados If you wanna feel the heat and swim I'd say you could go to Girardot
Oliver Johnson
Nature, food (which, IIRC, isn't exactly spectacular in Colombia) and people. Architecture is and can be interesting, but I don't think I'd want to spend more than an hour or two just to see a colonial-style town.
What's there to see around Villavicencio? I was just looking at Google Maps and saw tags around Parque Nacional Los Nevados but couldn't find many pictures.
Definitely gonna /drr/ on Friday and Saturday nights, but I don't think I really need much advice on that.

Basically I'm just looking to have an interesting few days, seeing things I couldn't see elsewhere without having to spend too much time in buses. Side note: I had a lot of fun doing adventure sports like paragliding near Medellin back in 2015. Do you know if there's anything like that around Bogota? I'll do a Google search, too.
This is a short and very spur-of-the-moment trip, so I don't expect I'm gonna do anything too crazy.

I wouldn't know, friend. I'm too poor to leave my little village.

Go to Medellin, that's all you need to know

I went to Medellin in 2015. Had a decent time, but I genuinely preferred Bogota. The weather's definitely worse, but I found the people to be much more approachable and friendly--presumably because fewer international tourists bother to spend much time in the gloomy, rainy capital.

Thanks, senpai. What's particularly interesting about those places? I did a Google Image search for each and didn't see anything of note--just a few cathedrals and resorts.
Evan Richardson
hmmm actually something you probably haven't done and not many tourists do:
SUESCA for rock Climbing TOBIA for rafting and kayaking CHOACHI there are hot springs and bungee jumping spots in the area NEUSA if you want to take shrooms and camp with some hipsters CHIA good dining all around and very close to Bogota LA CALERA nice viewpoints and nice town
if you want to party i reccomend to stay in the city
>What's particularly interesting about those places? honestly nothing. Most of those are in lower lying areas about 2-4 hours away from the city by car so they are getaways for bogotanos seeking a bit of sun. The usual trip involves drinking beer, be at the swimming pool, get a weekend tan, play pool and then come back to the city ready for another week of wageslaving

If you're going to Bogota, Medellin or the Atlantic Coast, I advice you to buy an insurance. And no, I'm not kidding.
Thanks, senpai. Those spots seem close enough to be good options.
Insurance for what? The only thing worth any money that I'll be taking is my phone, which already has a loss policy on it.

Check your thread on /trv/, I already left you a reply there.

he probably means for your own ass. getting stabbed is not uncommon and foreigners are usually a big mugging target >but i went there and nothing happened anecdotes are not absolute truths
Caleb Myers
Thanks, senpai.
I have health insurance that covers emergency expenses desu. From all the stories I've heard, mugging victims usually only get stabbed when they try to resist the crime.

Not trying to say Bogota is safe as Singapore here but you're basically right. Just don't get drunk and walk alone at night, don't pull out your cellphone in public if possible and be with a local who actually has the danger radar you whiteys don't seem to have. I might even be up for meeting up with you if I don't have much schoolwork for that weekend.
Jordan Butler
Lurking because I love Colombia
Jeremiah Sullivan
Other than the nature and the girls, what do you like about here? Honest question
Ayden Butler
Eh. My danger radar may not be terribly refined, but I lived in India for a few years and have traveled extensively throughout the developing world. Along with folks resisting crime, I've run across the same trend as you--a preponderance of "m8 I got mugged" stories seem to overlap with "m8 I was wasted" ones.
I won't have any schoolwork, since I'll be in Bogota over an official university break. Gonna go to bed in a bit, but post up in the /trv/ thread and we might be able to arrange something.
Also obligatory greentext:
>first day in Medellin >poorfag backpacker back then >check into hostel >only other person around is an Australian in the garden >it's 10am >he's drinking >"oi m8 muh name is Todd" >start talking about Colombia and crime >"m8 I reckon ya gotta be damn stupid to get mugged here" >mfw you already know where this is going >evening arrives >Todd and a bunch of other Australians ask if I want to go out to El Poblado to drink >sure >go out, have a few shots, feel kinda sick (think I ate something bad) >walk back by myself, nothing happens >wake up in the morning >all the Australians are sitting in the garden drinking beer >"hey m8 did ya hear what happened to Todd" >nope >"yea m8 Todd got bloody robbed >"we sawed him comin' outs of the bar and he said he wana' go back to the 'ostel >"but then he tried to flag down a taxi and just got inna some random bloke's car >"next thing we know we sees Todd comin' down the street in his undies, they done took everythin' from 'im >"we tried to stop 'im but then he just went off and got inna 'nother random car >"nobody seen 'im since" >takes a sip a beer >"he could be chained up in some bloke's basement for all we know" >he cackles

OP here. Not that guy, but I genuinely just enjoyed the country. That takes nature, people and culture into account. I had a girlfriend when I last visited, so I didn't get to experience the "girls" aspect of it.
Colombia was my first country in Latin America. TBQH I didn't think I'd like it very much. I arrived to the airport pretty late at night and everything seemed just as bad as I'd expected--walls covered in graffiti, creepy-looking folk hanging around in baggy clothes and a sort of run-down vibe across La Candelaria (yeah, I didn't know at the time).
Once I got up in the morning, I more or less knew I'd made a good decision--I really like cities that seem to have energy, and Bogota just felt so fucking vibrant (if a bit unsafe). People were also way, way nicer than I expected. I had a few nights out with random folk I'd met off the street--some girls who took me salsa dancing after we took turns watching each other's drinks in a plaza, whatever.
Hopefully I don't have my expectations too high--again, I just really remember that folks were much more hospitable than I'd expected, especially in Bogota and poorer parts of Medellin (in contrast, I found Medellin's higher-end scene to be comparatively snobby).

Alright, posting on /trv/ from now on. Threads there last like 2 years wew

A life insurance for you. So in case that you get died here by some ñero as he tries to strip you off any valuable that you carry with yourself, your family can make some bux from your death. I would fear for my life if were to get robbed in one of those places as delinquents there are particularly vicious (more than in the rest of the country). I really thank God for not living in any of those places.
Chase Stewart
He's been to detroit and Chicago. Literally very few cities (and non touristy ones btw) can compete with that.I'm sure he's less of a mugging target than you are, pussylord

Bro la candelaria is where poorfag backpckers stay. Mainly argentinians selling bracelets and weed and other poorfag latinx. Honestly if you can afford it stay in Usaquen or close to Andino next time. hell even Salitre is a better fucking option than downtown, candelaria and surroundings

How are colombian qts? The high tier ones seem even better then other countries' high tier ones. But what are the average ones like?

Medellin has this weirdly well balanced body fat distribution that makes you stare at everyone, even fucking grandmas, until you hate yourself for not fucking them all. The rest of the country is ok

Can you google a class photo from high school or above so i can see them?
