Australian and NZ generals were in positions of command at the opperation level, in italy and in the pacific but they drew up battle plans and made operational level decisions at the most not strategic ones

Why would two small islands with fuck all population make excecutive descisions in a conflict as massive as WW2? It's way smater to just combine that ANZAC forces into larger ones

It worked really well in WW1, the Autralian general monash drew up the plans for the 100 days in 1918 that would form the basis of all modern combined arms doctrines using tanks and airpower combined with infantry and artillery

Alliance with the British. I believe we were autonomy after ww1, but ww2 brought more freedom from the old empire (as well as trade incentives ect). Also considering our nations rely on trade to survive, it is in our interests to keep NA in british hands due to maritime importance.

Australia (not so much NZ) was involved in fighting Japan in the beginning campaigns. The northen tip of AUS was bombed and had America not started offensives in the pacific it may have seen a ground invasion (I think this is a stretch though as they were already very active in East Asia at this point).

Honestly though, although all the movies are based on America and western campaign (and British in older films) they were really just playing the phone version of ww2. USSR/China got the full copy.
