Austria had an empire comprising much of central Europe. If Austria proper was absorbed into Germany proper, the Austrian empire would obviously break apart. Bismarck was a pragmatist and did not want to destabilise central Europe. He tried his best to keep the peace and succeeded.

The reason you'll understand me is cause you said you're from Baden-Württemberg, which has a dialect closely related to bavarian. They influenced eachother. The reason you DON'T understand dutch is cause it's a lower german language which has very little in common with upper german languages such as those dialects spoken in BW, Bavaria, Switzerland and Austria. The lower german dialects that used to be spoken in northern german were entirely replaced by standard german, thanks to you retarded germans, and are therefore not intelligable anymore with dutch.

Before the creation of standard german, all land from Denmark, to the Netherlands, to Austria and Switzerland used to be on a dialect continuum, with village A understanding B, village B understanding C but village A not understanding village C.
Standard german cut off that dialec continuum by replacing pretty much all the central and northern german dialects.

USA isn't really a part of the Anglo world. USA is its own, entirely disconnected thing. It just happens to speak English, but that's where the similarities end.

Australia, Canada, England, etc are all similar, but they are separate nations under a single cultural sphere. The Nordic countries are all nations, but they are under the same cultural sphere. Even the UK isn't really a nation, but it does house several: England, Wales, Scotland, (Northern) Ireland. So the Anglosphere denotes nations within the British cultural sphere.

Austria isn't just part of a German cultural sphere, it's part of the German nation, though not part of Germany proper.

I don't think Hitler would've been regarded as one of the greatest public speakers of all time if Brandenburgers couldn't understand his strong Austrian dialect.
