the real story was how a border guards army managed to hold back a chinese zerg rush that was larger, more powerful and better armed than the ones that pushed the UN out of north korea. i don't think it gets enough credit, but they replicated the style of elastic defense that the soviets used to wear down the nazis, except did it even better by hiding in caves and bunkers and flanking them while out of supply.
that war should get more attention than it does, but china has basically written it out of history and denying it happened while pushing the vietnamese government to do the same.
