This was one of the questions asked in 8th grader math olympics. Can the average 8th grader in your country solve it?
This was one of the questions asked in 8th grader math olympics. Can the average 8th grader in your country solve it?
The answer I have come up with is this.
Positive numbers should be greater than zero.
But it should be the smallest.
so we should be use "limit"
>1
ezpz
So what's the answer?
It's (1/e)^(1/e)
Minimum point of x^x function is x^x(lnx+1)=0 x=1/e
Why use natural logarithm logs?
Theoretically, I wouldn't be wrong.
It may be wrong because it is not a fixed numbers
>it's
the correct answer is 0 btw. 0 is the smallest positive number. 0 is a quantum numerical superposition. feel free to argue it. i have a PhD in mathematics and will rape you in this thread.
non-negative: [0; +inf)
positive: (0; +inf)
Why it is so hard to understand?
no
the answer is easy, but I don't think so
>i have a PhD in mathematics
why are you discussing about an 8th grader maths problem?
Is the answer 1?
no
nowhere it says integer
You are all wrong morons, it's a trick question, numbers aren't real.
>it's
Oh yeah you’re right lol
0 is not a positive real number, and even if it included negative numbers the answer would be -inf. Nice "phd" you got there.
0 is not positive. Nor is it negative.
I have no idea what any of this means.
cevap nasıl -inf olsun ki?
Doğru aslında -inf olmaz. Kafa kalmamış bende de
The question as posed would be "solve x^x - x = 0".
Factor out an x, and we get x^(x-1) - 1 = 0 so the solution must be x = -1 or 1. Question says x > 0 so the answer is 1.
good lads.
A number with the same base and the exponent would be written as x^x.
average probably not average AP yeah
>it's
the way i did maths was that i learned how to answer the specific things that would come up on tests and never bothered to gleam a deeper understanding of things
i did well but i don't remember fucking anything anymore
what's an 8th grader?
>8th grade math olympics
as in stuff you don't even learn in high school but you would be able to easily answer given a day's worth of briefing but let's instead make you feel stupid by asking you questions you were never trained for
and I'll ask the 8th grader to use a desktop computer
spoiler alert: there is no deeper understanding
deeper understanding is an emotional connection
This is not exam, but olympics. Only gifted students get to participate, and is not mandatory
are you using google translate or something
You said "questions you never trained for", and I said that was not an exam. It's a competition with a prize for gifted students who study for advanced material.
they do still get extra coaching here
