Well smart contracts seem pretty useless to me. Why would you create smart contracts, for let's say a sports betting app, when the objective is to profit? The entire app could be written without smart contracts much more efficiently and the only lost benefit is trustlessness. But then trust is implicit to reputation. The only use i see for smart contracts is p2p crypto trades.

Further smart contracts have almost limitless potential for conducting any kind of agreement online without the need for a centralized authority taking a cut (like your betting app hypo). I feel like some things need more detail, but the idea of decentralized oracle's via some kind of schelling coin strategy seems like it could work, to my feeble bachelor brain.

Even if reputation is centralized, that seems like it just makes the system more flexible. Sometimes it's okay to have a system that requires trust, and people who don't need it can have a single network for everything, rather than having to pay the high prices to recruit nodes that are staking significant amounts of LINK.
Also, does anyone remember how much ETH one needs to run a staking validator in the upcoming pos system? I wonder what the equivalent amount of LINK would be. My thinking is that if I want to be able to run a note with the ability to stake a significant amount, then it couldn't hurt to consider what etjereum considers significant.
