Ripple's priority is creating software for business. Making a consumer focused wallet app is a distraction.
I have no idea what they show cased on Ellen. Probably a stylised/show ready version of xRapid. I doubt it actually did anything.

Use Uphold? I store mine in a paperwallet that I created offline with an amnesic operating system.
Toast wallet is a good way to store off an exchange if you want something easy to use/more legit looking.

Kek. I offered you a another option other than kraken and bitstamp. Yes I used Tails in that instance to make an cold storage wallet.
If you want Ripple to endorse XRP officially then its not the coin for you. They purposely distance themselves to avoid the threats of it being labeled a secruity.

thats what most people do, as you will have 20 xrp stuck in any wallet you create and that there is no oficial wallet, i have my stack split between 2 exchanges and gatehub gateway wallet.
other people recomend rippex or toast, but i never used it

nope, when you create your own wallet that only you can control etc etc... you need a reserve of 20 xrp ie you put in 1000 xrp but you can only withdraw 980, it is a one time thing tho, if you send another 1000 xrp you will be able to withdraw your 1000xrp
its one of the reasons people just keep their xrps in exchanges
