Oh you mean work mule? Long hours, schedule not flexible and shitty environment.
Manufacturing engineering if you want to be celibate or like fat chicks and have no job for 5 years out of college until you finally get a shit shift at a factory for $45k/year.
Software engineering if you want to make $160k/year straight out of college and fuck literally any girl you want because you have money.
carpentry
Mechanical engineering major here. Why do you wanna do engineering? From the work xp I have, it's basically this
Already work as a tech in a plant, but yes the salary comparison is very similar. I bet I’d start at 50k and top out at 80k if I was lucky
Software engineering
>implying software engineers don't work long hours
But yeah go for Software engineering if you like coding a lot. If you don't really like coding I wouldn't recommend it.
mechanical engineer graduate here looking for a job
you should do software engineering, all the salaries i see are higher
Please do computer science not software engineering. You dont need to take a class to learn how to use git or work in groups or test software compared to learning a real theoretical science.
i fell for the theory meme
im unemployed
I’m going to have a mechatronics degree when I graduate anyway so it’s irrelevat
That's because all your projects were shit and you didn't do any extra curricular work or open source contributions.
Manufacturing engineering
You don't get a degree to learn, you get a degree because its required to get a job.
Any CS / SE graduate can go to silicone valley and make $160k/year starting.
Lmao if you think being a freelance code money or IT grunt is comparable.
also true
Double major in math and statistics, minor in computer science if you want money
>Manufacturing engineering
you'll still need software engineering because it's all going to be robots
Manufacturing e is for people who arent smart enough to be mechanical engineers, coding is a meme that anyone can do it's like learning to weld anyone can do it
Programming a PLC and teaching a robot is not the same as making the software for using it
That’s like saying people who use excel know how to do software
However the logic is similar in terms of a plc you’re still doing step by step logic
You obviously learn while getting your degree, and learning CS is more important than learning SE. Both look pretty much the same to an employer. I don't know what you're getting at with code monkeys or IT grunts.
One reason to go into engineering? Engineers are Chads compared to CS neets, and being around them will help you become better socially and you might even have a chance at smashing some chick at a engineering party.
In before engineers are faggots.
I’m working full time already as a tech just debating
On what to do because muh software salaries. I’m not going to be living a normal academic life , besides OP wasn’t about a degree
Basically this.
OP, if you have to ask you propably aren't motivated enough to do all the extra shit in your free time on top of the degree you need to do to actually get hired as a software engineer.
I fell for the computer science meme even though I wasn't that excited about coding and it's really not that great when you're competing for jobs with people who have been coding all their free time since they were like 10.
Major inphysics, go to grad school for cs or EE and rack up paper
Not happening
Both of the majors you put are not good, take it from a currently employed fortune 50 engineer. If you can get a 4.0 in math or physics, you can do anything or work anywhere no matter what field or grad school. Even med school is an option
Hey user,
So I work as a mfg eng. been outta school now for 4 years and make about 85k. It’s awesome work and a lot of fun. Because you deal with the production floor a lot they like you the most out of all the engineers and having the respect of the production floor is invaluable. That being said, if I had to do it all over again I would go for software. I tend to hit a roadblock frequently where whatever I’m trying to do or implement would be sooo much easier if I was proficient at programming. You can learn everything an engineer does on the job. I feel it’s a much bigger learning curve going the other way around.
Learn to code.
It’s not a fucking major thread. For muh 4.0gpa you have piss poor reading comprehension
You're right I misread it as about degrees. Software engineering I think is a much better long term career.
>Manufacturing engineering
My friend did this at uni and is now a very successful investment banker, very rich. Patrick Bateman lifestyle.
Petroleum engineering. Thank me from your future 6 bedroom house.
Kneepad engineering
Oil is dead, and I’d rather not get blown up on an oil rig. Also learn to read
FIG
Its a field of engineering and if you think petroleum is going away within your lifetime, you're crazy. Its used for a lot more than just fuel.
Fuck all that and just buy LINK
