Hey Jow Forums, i want to start a business and go for a headshop In my city is a huge uni with lot of students but nowhere a headshop selling stuff for weedsmokers etc I think i could fill a niche Do you have any tips, suggestions
stick with cheap pieces. No one buys anything over $10 anymore so you better have other things in the shop besides $1000 bongs

Owen Anderson
the day you start turning a profit someone else will open a competing shop
but you should still do it. just do the financials with this in mind. you will not have a monopoly forever.
Luke Sullivan
valid? not valid? and how do i set up this idea?
Im 21 btw and a student myself but want to escape from this
Alexander Sanchez
you need a business plan. start with:
>rent cost on a suitable shop >cost of stock (check alibaba) >shipping stock (use a shipping agent) >fixed costs like electricity, internet, insurance, staff, cleaning >shop fitout costs >marketing costs
I would suggest working on a margin (NOT markup but margin) of 60%. i.e. if a bong costs you $40 delivered to your store you should sell it for $100, 60% profit)
based on all those numbers work out how much you will need to turnover to be profitable and make your decision.
as starting capital investment I would suggest cost of stock + 6 months rent and fixed costs at the absolute minimum
Josiah Fisher
okay thanks for the advice
if i have a business plan could i go with it straight to a bank and ask them for the capital investment?
Kayden Morris
yes absolutely but you will need to build in the interest repayments to your fixed costs
also be aware depending on the amount they may ask for security or a parental guarantee
Dominic King
do you run your own business? or why do you know "such things"
Evan Stewart
All retarded advice OP. Start selling online, turn a consistent profit, and then move to Brick and Mortar
Ryder Anderson
yes i run my own business, but not retail, b2b
Austin Campbell
but there are too many online headshops and i want to run my own retail business but idk if its worth the risk
how much do you make? and how was the beginning?
Chase Baker
Retail property is expensive. Where abouts are you? Set up a simple but well designed website just telling customers what you have in stock. You'd probably do better doing online first though. You could even just deliver the goods to customers, give out cards to students etc
Justin Fisher
I have been running the business for 6 years with a partner and we each take home approx $8-9k/month currently
I will not tell you what the business does so don't ask
The start was hard, I'm glad I did it in my early 20s

Prepare to get discriminated against by city council, politicians and law enforcement.
Also people.
>user with a couple of years headshop running experience
Evan Martin
>niche good look competing with pajeets and their indian blown glass. chinese glass is actually getting better too, although some of the other shit is still thin wall garbage.
only a small amount of people are willing to pay high price for good quality, american blown glass. you won't survive, especially off students with no money.
Camden Murphy
Does it help at all if you team up with local restaurants?
Cause, you know, you got that customer base synergy going.
Wyatt Wright
why would that help at all? it's not like it's amsterdam where people get high at the location and get the munchies in the same area. people buy glass and go home to smoke.
Christopher Garcia
Like anything you said is even relevant.
Like a headshop only sells glass
Like he can't simply order off of the same wholesale stock the competition does.
Eli Allen
so at the beginning just a website for the local students etc and then expanse?
okay sounds not so bad i guess is this your main income?
thats also my concern..
Chase Johnson
You can do cross marketing with takeout places.
Hunter Taylor
is this your main income?
yes it is my full time job, but i also have crypto on the side
Bentley Hall
and then what? compete against pajeets with real connections to indian wholesellers? shit is not going to work at all. he's going to pay more on dhgate than the pajeets who buy direct.
if he's the only headshop in town, then sure. he'll survive for a year or so until real competitors move in.
Wyatt Lewis
so you think thats an bad idea and i should forget about it?
thats sound actually not bad
Nicholas Bell
it depends on where you live and how you decide to run your business. if you can build connections, make your store stand out, become a chill place to hang out and think you can survive, then do it. there are so many headshops it's not a niche any more.
if you're just going to listen to these retards that say buy from dhgate, then don't even bother.
Nathaniel Thompson
>so at the beginning just a website for the local students etc and then expanse? yeh at the beginning, better to set up a website than spend money on an actual shop. If there's demand then consider opening a retail store.
Zachary Clark
OP just sell weed it’s easier and you don’t have to give any of your tax dollars to the Jews
Justin Sanchez
okay also thanks for the advice
yep sounds more safety
nah i got problems with the police 2 years ago for counterfeit money
Joshua Carter
Lol, good goy 6 years kek >Brainlet detected
Asher Bennett
ignore this
Bentley Ramirez
you are aware that like 98% of headshops are money laundering businesses ? think about why that is and why you won't make that much money in it
Dylan Rodriguez
>counterfeit money
Yeah no bank is giving you a loan. If you want to do this you better fund it entirely yourself or with people that you know
