Economics or Finance

I'm about to enter the second year of a Bachelor of Commerce and I need to pick a major between Finance or Economics. The other major offered is accounting but I don't want to do that. What's the better major Jow Forums?

Take Finance, user. Economics is not worth it.

t. Econ dropyy

Did you drop completely or dropped out of econ to do finance or something else?

Finance major, econ minor since it's useful to have a general grasp of economics too.

I would choose Finance myself, because I personally believe Economics is a load of bullshit. Having said that, if you're interested in academia there is a lot more of that kind of stuff - writing papers and stuff - as a career in economics. While Finance, obviously, you'd want to start either working for a financial institution or in the finance department of a corporation. A very different career stream, a lot less 'big picture'.

This OP.

Between the two, Finance is more marketable. You'll have more job opportunities there.

Econ is mostly an academic discipline. You'll be stronger for jobs at "institutes" but you won't get those jobs unless you have a perfect GPA or are Jewish.

Okay, I was planning on further study as well, maybe a masters degree but I'm not sure if I want to work in Academia or not. Do you think it'll be easy to branch into economics postgrad degrees with a finance major?
By the looks of it finance is the way to go for employment opportunities so I'll probably be majoring in that and I'll see if I have enough course units left for a minor in econ.

>Do you think it'll be easy to branch into economics postgrad degrees with a finance major?
that is way beyond my knowledge, sorry. I suggest looking up various econ professors and PHD candidates at you college and see what their qualifications were.
Decide as soon as you can whether you want to peruse academia or not, the worst thing is when you graduate and you end up trying to figure out "aww what do I want to do NOW?" it's a horrible feeling.

You can do that if you want. A masters in Econ eould only help if you actively want academia though.

If you do that, make sure you get great grades in your econ minor courses, this will matter for the masters application.

But I reiterate that if you're a white guy you HAVE TO be the top of your class if you want to be in economics academically. It is completely filled with Jews. If you have a 3.9 GPA you will be passed over for a jew with a 3.5.

>If you have a 3.9 GPA you will be passed over for a jew with a 3.5.
Is this an American thing?
t. Australian

I switched to another program after realizing i need to take masters, not worth the time.

Finance, mainstream economics is bullshit anyway. Make a post grad course in Austrian School of Economy if you want to learn whats what

Economics is a fuckin meme, most still believe in the money multiplier effect, even though central banks say it is a fallacy

Yes it's American system
